We must make sure our party chooses the correct path.
There seems to be a lot of pressure for them to follow the wrong path (I guess this is their wrong headed approach to appease everyone). We must apply pressure that they choose the right one.

-snip-

During the presidential campaign, candidates from both parties will warn of the risk of another terrorist attack on this country. Americans should insist that they also explain how they will repair the damage President Bush has done to America’s intelligence-gathering capabilities in the name of fighting terrorism.

-snip-

Congress certainly has not done the job. For six years, it stood by mutely or actively approved as President Bush’s team cooked the books to justify war, drew the nation’s electronic spies into illegal wiretapping and turned intelligence agents and uniformed soldiers into torturers at outlaw prisons.

-snip-

Now, with the opposition party in control on Capitol Hill, lawmakers have a chance to start setting right some wrongs in these areas. But there are disturbing signs that they will once again fail to do what is needed.

1. Blame the corporatist authoritarians in our own party for that
Clinton's definitely in their pocket. Obama? Maybe not so much. Edwards? Probably even less due to his experience as a trial lawyer, but he definitely has an authoritarian streak in him.

2. People sometimes get on me for wanting Pelosi and Reid removed.
But they should know it's because I want the party to choose the correct path. When they choose wrong, I feel it my duty to oppose them.

3. Hey, I hear you...
It's always a delicate balance because some people think that if you want Pelosi and Reed out, you want Democrats as a whole to fail. But that's the reason we have primaries in the first place. Joe Lieberman learned that the hard way in 2006, and wound up running against the candidate chosen by CT Democrats to keep his seat in the Senate. Lieberman has revealed his true colors.

Now, I know that Cindy Sheehan is running against Pelosi in the general election next year, but since Sheehan's not running as a Democrat and challenging Pelosi in the primary, I really can't go for that, either. I just wish Sheehan was running as a Dem. She would have stood a great chance against Pelosi in the primary. But I think Cindy has had enough of Democrats for a while - or at least the current batch on the Hill that keeps funding Bush's splendid little excursion in the Middle East.

4. I wish we could pressure the party
into just removing them from leadership positions if nothing else. Otherwise, strategy should be primary defeats. There are too many democrats out there more deserving of their seats. They should be recruited to run.
