How duped was this country before the Internets?
Today---the minute false info is reported or written about, it is debunked pretty quickly. Where? The internets.

Oh I know the internets were around when Clinton and even Bush 41 were around---but the tools...Blogs, Forums, etc were in it's infancy.

All we had was the MSM.

So have we been lied to a good portion of our lives and didn't even know it?

1. "have we been lied to a good portion of our lives" ABSOLUTELY
I have thought this same line of thinking many, many times, when all we had was the evening news to 'inform' us.

8. There was a time when the evening news
was good. The reporters had integrity, and we got the truth.

The neocon shits worked hard to subvert that. Now they are setting their sites on the Internet.

4. BOOHOOOOOOO We've been lied too our whole lives?
I think they did a pretty good job of exposing Nixxon, don't you agree? And if it wasn't for the Rethuglican scum taking over the House and Senate in 1994, maybe we would have learned the truth.

But not from this assclown.

He is a (supposed) journalist.

5. great post!
This is exactly why we need to keep the Internet neutral. We don't need different price tiers- we need everyone to have access to anything.

7. The rise of the internets will have profound effects on a
tyrant's and cult leader's ability to deceive their followers. Before this, only publisher's and owners of newspapers had a voice. Now, everyone can have a voice. If the internets had been around in 1933, I don't believe Hitler and the Nazi's could have misled the German people into thinking all their ills were the fault of jews and traitors. Part of Bush's meteoric decline in the polls can be directly attributed to the effects of the public's access to information free from right wing media and newspapers. Long live he internets, all of them.

11. I think I am approximately 5 percent dumber because of the Internets
To be perfectly honest. I could have read the OED in the time I wasted on this thing.
