2. "Obvious abuse" can you elaborate?
Do you have any experience in law enforcement?

Believe you me, NOBODY likes to get arrested. Few people say, "You know, thank you for doing your job, I was wrong." The obvious cop-out is "you are violating my rights" and if there was dime for that in the public coffers we'd all be millionaires.

4. Sorry TI, been there done that
Just because you haven't heard about it doesn't say it isn't so. I've worked around law enforcement all my adult life and have friends who have put the better part of their lives into doing the job. I've also been on the receiving end from stupidity or just dumb luck. Most LEO's are good people and take pride in what they do, but that position of authority draws a good percentage of people who don't have the psychological strength to avoid abusing that power. When I've been on the receiving end, every officer approached the situation as adversarial and tried to assert their position of authority. I don't fault them for that, it ain't a perfect world and you have to cover your ass. The ones who were using their judgment and intelligence to handle the situation avoided use of force once they had a handle on the situation. The authoritarian assholes never read the situation, they just needed to be in control by whatever means. You might want to sit in on a Psych 101 class and adjust your perspective.
