Huck falsely claimed to have a theology degree
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 06:06 PM by kskiska
After the news conference with Ed Rollins in Concord, NH, Huckabee and Rollins, his new national campaign manager, took some questions. The last question was about a Powerline blog, a conservative blog, story that he did not, in fact, have a theology degree, as he has claimed. Here is Huckabee's response:

"I have a bachelor of arts in religion and a minor in communications in my undergraduate work. And then I have 46 hours on a master's degree at Southwestern Theology Seminary. So, my degree as a theological degree is at the college level and then 46 hours toward a masters -- three years of study of New Testament Greek, and then the rest of it, all in Seminary was theological studies, but my degree was actually in religion."

Here's what Huckabee said in a Christian Broadcasting Network interview:
"I'm as strong on terror as anybody. In fact I think I'm stronger than most people because I truly understand the nature of the war that we are in with Islamofascism. These are people that want to kill us. It's a theocratic war. And I don't know if anybody fully understands that. I'm the only guy on that stage with a theology degree. I think I understand it really well."

1. I heard Randi make the comment today that he has a theology degree.
She stated it as a fact. I immediately knew that was unlikely to be true given his denomination.

Funny how your post shows up a few hours later on the issue - glad I don't need to look it up now.

2. Somebody needs to remind Huck that he is running for President,
not Pastor.

3. Attending the College is not the same as graduating from it
He married his wife Janet McCain on May 25, 1974. He graduated magna cum laude from
Ouachita Baptist University, completing his bachelors degree in 2½ years before attending
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Check out the schools too ....

Mike Huckabee is like a rotten log .... all kinds of things
can crawl out of him.

I hope he gets the nomination.

8. As to Ouchita Baptist University . . .
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 06:25 PM by janeaustin
The best professor I ever had at the Univerity of Texas, undergraduate and graduate levels, was a product of Ouchita Baptist.

He was brilliant, and a superb teacher. He was a fan of Robert Penn Warren's critical approach, and I learned from him oh, so very much, how to think, how to observe and certainly, how to explicate.

He taught a graduate course in Social Protest Literature, which was my introduction to Ralph Ellison, James Agee, and many others.

He was from Arkansas and was liberal-minded in the very best sense.

Dr. Max Westbrook, if you're out there, "THANK YOU!" I remember you with gratitude and admiration.

16. I'd likely have thought the same thing
if I hadn't had Dr. Westbrook for as many courses as I could get. :)

Enough with the sulking - go have some fun!

4. So is the fake word "islamofascism" on the final?
Or does having a "degree in religion" give students the right to just make shit up?

7. And we all know about those religion majors, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
;)

Religion majors at our evangelical college had the reputation of being horndogs. They were the ones most likely to have a quick wedding and a baby less than nine months later.

10. A BA in religion could be considered a generic theology degree,
but it is NOT a Theology Degree.

'Theology' and 'religious studies' are semanticly equivalent, but a Theology Degree is a clearly defined doctorate in Theology - which he never completed.

13. LOL.
Pretty much.

As a Doctor of Theology, when you argue the number of angels dancing on the head of a pin, people are supposed to take you seriously.

12. Who really cares how many hours he has?
I mean there is a big difference between hours toward something and actually completing something, and I'm a little confused why a major political figure would think it significant to mention how many hours he has toward completing a degree he apparently never finished. Frankly, I don't even remember how many hours were required to complete the degrees I have, since I'm mainly thinking about the future.
