Poll question: How often do you contact your representatives in Washington D.C.
I normally send an e-mail every week. If there is a hot button issue or important vote, I will call and write an e-mail to have it documented. I've become quite friendly with the staff of Gus Bilirakis (R-FL). I think it is really important to take the time to write to our House Reps and Senators. My House Rep is very responsive, and I always get a letter or phone call in response. At first they were just general "Thank you for your interest blah, blah, blah". Now, they are often detailed and in depth with real answers and with citations quoting certain bills that are being enacted for this and that. I also write Gov. Crist's office on a regular basis. His responses are slow in coming back.

1. I couldn't agree more
Back during Vietnam when my brother was drafted my grandmother sent an email to her Congressman telling him about his electronics skills. This saved my brother from an almost certain death or injury on the front lines. It was bad but at least he got to repair electronics in Saigon rather than get killed in the jungle. I'll never forget that.

On the other hand, this past year we met with and wrote our Congressman repeatedly on impeachment. And we might as well have saved our energy. Still, I think its good to try.

3. Your brother must have had a ton of electronic skills to be able
to set up email for your grandmother back then.

5. When there are personal issues.. they seem more able to help...
when its a general thing like Impeachment and they are supposed to just stick their heads in the sand and ignore the issues... they really don't like to answer or just give general statements...

The last letter I received he said that he wasn't aware of anyone drafting Articles of Impeachment against Bush... So, I called his office, and I told him that Dennis Kucinich was working on the Bill... and that his support would be quite favorable to me and a lot of people I know. I also told the lady that if Impeachment hearings began, the President could not use Executive Privelage to hide his admin. actions. The findings would only lead to Impeachment and most likely jail sentences for many in the White House. I also told her that is was very important to me that these signing statements that he has enacted need to be recinded.. If someone like Hillary Clinton was to become President, I would not doubt that she would use Bush's power grabbing for her own purposes. And she stated that she was very glad that I called and that it was very important to have these kinds of calls supporting my position.... In the letter I received, they wrote: "Rest assured that I will remember your strong support for holding the President accountable for any role he may have played in violating the Constitution or U.S. Law. I will share your thought with my HOuse colleagues. I am certain they will benefit from your views." This line is very important, especially coming from a Republican. There appears to me an in-fight, and the regular Republicans may be ready to step it up and throw the Neo-cons out. There is a general understanding that the Constitution and U.S. Law has been violated... that is not a question... A turning point indeed. Before he wouldn't admit that there were possibly any violations.

8. I used to do it on a very
regular basis; however, it has been quite some time. I am disillusioned and have come to the decision none of it makes a bit of difference so why bother. Hopefully, this is a passing attitude but I have yet to see anything that changes my way of thought.
