I did a closing for a nice young couple about to wed, their first home purchase.

I explained the mortgage agreement and the ancillary papers to them carefully and they indicated they understood the terms and conditions.

Now the husband's been injured and out of work and their monthly income halved. The stress may even make them separate and live apart.

The husband's sister was talking to the wife, my client, and the latter expressed no fear whatsoever if they don't have enough money to make the house payments, because "nobody would EVER take away a house from a mother and a child".

She really said it and believes it.

I hope they don't separate! Please offer advice on marriage counselling and finding a financial advisor who can help them through this mess. This housing thing is going to effect a lot of people and the worst thing a couple can do is split up during times of hardship. If they can make it through this together they can do anything. My boyfriend and I lost our place during the northridge quake, and it was a tough time. but we are married now and have children and our relationship is solid knowing that we can always be there for one another. I hope they can make it!

it is sad - the youngsters gradually learn that the tooth fairy, easter bunny, and santa are not real - but they never learn that reality IS real. They just don't get the "law of the jungle." Despite the thin veneer of "civilization" humans have created, the facts are that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch and when push comes to shove, you are on your own, except, in some cases, for very close friends or family members.

The idea that this woman thinks a corporation to whom she is just an entry in a balance sheet "wouldn't dare" is sad beyond belief.

These kids are thrust out into the cold cruel world completely unequipped. Shoot, there are those who literally don't understand what a credit card is. They think it is like Jack's magic beans or something. It is a way to "get stuff for free" to them.

Florida would not permit the eviction of a woman with a child under the age of 2. She may have heard about that and extrapolated it to what she wanted it to be.

18. I've noticed about younger adults

that most of them have only lived through the Clinton 90's and the Bush 00's. They didn't live through the housing crash and high interest rates of the 80's. They've never seen people being thrown out on the street, or the that only mortgage you could get was at 18% and they think it can't happen to them.

Come to think of it, they didn't live through the Vietnam War, the energy crisis and gas lines, and Nixon administration in the 70's. They didn't live through the JFK assassination, riots in the big cities, anti-war protests, RFK and MLK assassinations of the 60's.

They really don't know how a lot of things can disintegrate and how bad things can really get. Now most of the really bad things are happening all at once, which is difficult enough for those of us who lived the 60's, 70's and 80's to know how to put in perspective. They must have a lot of "it can't happen here" moments.

I hate to generalize, and I'm sure that there are plenty of aware, worried younger adults (especially on DU), but most of these younger folks don't know what excretion is about to hit which appliance.
