A really positive e-mail from Barbara Boxer...

and she's not asking for money, which is refreshing.

First, let me thank you for being part of our PAC for a Change family. I'm so proud of what we've accomplished together. Just last year, our work led to the victories of great Senators like Jim Webb, Jon Tester, and Sheldon Whitehouse, to name just a few.

Now as we get ready for 2008, we face another incredible opportunity: Many Republican Senators, who have blindly supported the war in Iraq and one of the worst presidents in history, are either retiring or facing very low approval ratings, creating real opportunities for strong Democratic candidates in blue and red states alike.

Some say we could pick up as many as nine Senate seats next year and significantly increase our slim, one vote majority. Imagine what a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate would mean for our families, our environment, our working people, and those who want to see America lead the world from a position of moral strength.

Thankfully, our party is already seeing a growing list of strong Democratic candidates for Senate in 2008.

Click here to take a look into the future and read about some of our terrific 2008 Senate candidates today on the PAC for a Change website!

Let me tell you about a few of our great hopes for next year's election.

Virginia:

With Republican John Warner retiring, we have a great shot at picking up this seat with former Governor Mark Warner. Five years ago, he inherited $6 billion in budget shortfalls when he became Governor of Virginia. He established governmental spending reforms to generate a huge surplus, and used that funding to reinvest millions of dollars in public education. He is now running for Senate in Virginia, and I know he'll help turn our country around, just as he did his own state.

Colorado:

Another promising Democratic pick up is found in Colorado, where Republican Wayne Allard is retiring. The Democratic candidate is Congressman Mark Udall. Mark knows how to put differences aside and find common ground with those who may not agree with him -- most notably, he was instrumental in passing bipartisan legislation to protect the Rocky Flats and other natural areas of Colorado. He also cosponsored the "Earmark Transparency and Accountability Act" to ensure that Congress spends money ethically and is held accountable.

We're lucky to have strong, capable and dedicated public servants like Mark Warner and Mark Udall running for Senate -- click here to visit our website and read more about them today!

But Mark Warner and Mark Udall are just the start. We're also fielding very strong candidates in New Mexico (Tom Udall), New Hampshire (Jeanne Shaheen & Jay Buckey), Minnesota (Al Franken & Mike Ciresi), Oregon (Jeff Merkley & Steve Novick), Maine (Tom Allen), Texas (Rick Noriega), and Idaho (Larry LaRocco), with competitive races expected in Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Alaska too.

A few weeks ago, Congress overrode Bush's veto for the first time and passed legislation to provide relief to communities struck by hurricanes. I'm proud of what we've accomplished since the Democrats took over Congress in 2006 -- but the enormous effort required to override just one veto just goes to show how important it is that we increase our numbers in the Senate.

As in 2006, many of these races are going to be close, so I hope you'll take a moment to learn more about the candidates on our PAC for a Change website and support their efforts to put America back on the right track.

I'm thrilled to see so many talented and capable people running for Senate next year -- click here to take a look into the future and read about the candidates today!

Please stay tuned, as I'll be in touch with you in the coming weeks and months about how we can work to build a long-term progressive majority in Congress.

Thank you for your continued friendship and support.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

1. Great message
It gives one hope. We do desperately need to get a larger majority in the Senate to bring about change.

4. I'll have to join this Pac with Barbara Boxer so that I get encouraging news

Yesterday I got a notice from Feinstein thanking me for my support of Mukaskey (!!#$????)

I'm not sure wherer that idea came from.

Even more depressing, the letter included all of her reasons for recommending the piece of scum.

But at least she acknowledged my existence despite my not showering her with campaign contributions.
