We wanna know if the rains beat the drought they going through

1. Eh, we got some but nowhere near enough to make a difference....

In the lake levels and such. We're supposed to get more tomorrow but not a whole lot unfortunately. I'm just worried about all the trees that are drought stricken and will get the heavier spring rains in just a few months. There's going to be a whole lot of downed trees if we get a good ice storm this winter and when the spring rains start... *Sigh*...

Ridiculous, that is. Personally, I got the feeling that the damn thing was scheduled based on that week's weather forecasts. It was known about a week in advance that rain was due the day after that prayer session was scheduled... Darn funny timing to me, but then I'm rather cynical these days...

2. To "beat" the drought, even partially,

would literally take weeks of an average (not sprinkles, not gully washers) rainfall 24/7.

As suggested by another poster, too much in a stretch is just as bad as too little.

So if our regular rain patterns started today (a couple of days of rain every 10-14 days) it would take a few years to get back to a normal water table.

What's happening now is psychological relief and nothing else.

4. The rain avoided the Birmingham area

as usual. I'm starting to worry about the danger of wildfires. I live in a heavily wooded area filled with houses. The neighborhood lost many, many established, 25 year-old hardwoods in the last year. People can't cut them down and remove them fast enough. If it gets much drier, a fire could tear through here and destroy thousands of homes.

This is not something used to have to worry about. This area used to be lush and green.

I'm almost SERIES!!111!!!1!1 Twice in my life already, I have prepared to go and live in a place that, as it turns out, was nearing the end of a prolonged drought: northern Cal. in the mid-'80s, and (as Opi will attest) Hawai'i at the end of the '90s.

And both times I have had a month or two of decent weather in which to go to and from bus stops (or BART), shop, go to parks, whatever -- and then Mother Nature has lowered the boom. The month of Dec. 2000, when I came here, was flawless: not even the clouds one normally sees over the Ko'olau Range right above town. And then New Year's Day '01 dawned gray and lifeless. Since then I have spent much of the past seven years casting nervous glances over my shoulder at those same mountains...

I'm even fairly familiar with the place, having done a couple of road trips with my lefty friends from my New Orleans days. Think of it! By spring y'all could be wasting as much water as that dude up in Cobb... :sarcasm:
