fuck baseball.
:grr::mad:

there are so many more important things that need news coverage (this means you K.O.) than whether or not some overpaid dimwit got juiced up to play what is,essentially,a game for children.
that is all.

2. I swear, they bring out steroids in baseball every time they want
to hide the bigger picture. I remember, several years ago, when all out of the blue John McCain kept yapping about steroids in baseball. Why, John McCain?? It was very obviously a diversion.

4. Baseball is a Good Thing
Just like anything else that brings people together to participate in something they enjoy. Yes, there are definatly bigger issues, but for a lot of people, this is news.

6. "Pro" Sports is vapid, but . . .
the mind reels when one considers the alternative: endless war.

Competitive sports very likely began as a form of ritualized combat, a way to "battle" without threat of casualties, especially important to societies of limited population.

I agree that nowadays pro sports is mostly opiate of the masses, a broadcast tool for pacification (well, directed aggression, really) and distraction. But I also think it needs to be.

7. What amuses me..
... is that most people don't seem to realize that ALL pro sports have this problem, I doubt if baseball is even the worst.

Americans are like naive children sometimes.

9. (Shrug) I'm interested in the MItchell Report
I suspect most folk's attention spans are large enough pay attention to both baseball and other issues.

10. Thow him a bone here
We all know (Or at least I think we all know) that KO's first love is baseball. And this was a major story today. I see no reason for him to not be able to cover this.

12. No. This isn't about overpaid dimwits but about a national passtime,
about trust in public figures and about honesty. I think you missed his point.

13. When a huge baseball story breaks, expecting Keith not to cover it
is like asking the Pope to convert to another religion.

Besides, the dirtiness of our sports says something about the dirtiness of our larger society.

14. I had the same reaction.
The top story on Countdown was baseball? I just turned it off. Keith loves baseball; he rattles off some arcane story about a long ago player before doing 'oddball' most nights. It's fine, I just tune away.

There are a lot of things I like that aren't 'important', I just don't expect the limited amount of time and resources of serious news organizations to be spent on covering them. I haven't watched local news in over a decade at least, but I'm assuming they still do sports. I used to think, why not fit in another story on something that actually affects people here? Grown men in uniforms hitting a ball with a stick doesn't make any difference in the real world to anyone.

15. The US has more people incarcerated for drugs than any other country on earth.
Why should baseball players get a pass, from either the media or the courts? :wtf:
