Don't really feel bad for joking about Romney's religion
Today's news

Republican Mitt Romney retorted to questions about his faith by surging rival Mike Huckabee on Wednesday, declaring that "attacking someone's religion is really going too far."

Last weeks news
he (Romney)denounced those who see religion "as merely a private affair with no place in public life. It is as if they are intent on establishing a new religion in America -- the religion of secularism."

Probably being stupid here but if you attack people's religion one week, why are you shocked people keep dumping on you about religion a week later. You just told people religion is not a private affair. Hey one week secularism in a political race is a terrible, terrible thing, the next week he's calling for secular political races where someone's religion is hands off. Kudos for Mike Huckabee for doing exactly what Romney told him is perfectly ok to do. If I were Huckabee I'd answer right back with that exact Romney statement and force him to answer if he believes religion does or doesn't have a place in public life.

1. Kudos to both of them for showing that neither of them are ...
fit to hold the office of President.

2. WTF? Defending Huckabee? He's a slimy asshole. He's the one who
touted himself as a "Christian Leader" in campaign ads--HE brought up religion first, not Romney. Romney just took the bait. They're BOTH morons, but Huckabee is the anti-Christ.

5. I don't disagree
But Romney had his chance to take religion off the table with a major televised speech and instead left it on the table. Huckabee is politically doing a smart thing. I credit him for it. It's their crappy party if they want to spend 8 months talking about magic underwear I see it as great news for the Democrats.

6. I think he's a nasty bigot. I don't credit him at all. I will never applaud
the mockery of another's beliefs, I don't care which side does it. You might say, "yay, it hurts Romney!" but what it REALLY does is hurt millions of good people who happen to be Mormons. This transcends politics. It represents a bad turn this country is taking.

3. Romney said "freedom requires religion".
Last week, Romney told all Americans on NATIONAL TV that in order to have freedom, they must be religious, which implies actively worshipping god.

I'd say he's opened himself up to criticism about his religion; the fact that it's coming from his own kind is delicious. Two Republicans battling it out for the hearts and minds of the fundies. :toast:

4. I don't feel bad for joking about anything at all.
Declaring topics sacred is just a way of trying to avoid analysis and criticism, and I don't buy it.
