WP: 6 of 7 Dismissed US Attorneys Had Positive Job Evaluations (Most investigating GOP corruption!)
6 of 7 Dismissed U.S. Attorneys Had Positive Job Evaluations
By Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, February 18, 2007; Page A11

Former U.S. attorney Bud Cummins, above, said officials crossed a line by publicly criticizing the performance of his well-regarded colleagues. Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty, right, recently told a Senate panel that six U.S. attorneys had been dismissed for "performance-related" reasons. (By Danny Johnston -- Associated Press)

All but one of the U.S. attorneys recently fired by the Justice Department had positive job reviews before they were dismissed, but many ran into political trouble with Washington over issues ranging from immigration to the death penalty, according to prosecutors, congressional aides and others familiar with the cases.

Two months after the firings first began to make waves on Capitol Hill, it has also become clear that most of the prosecutors were overseeing significant public-corruption investigations at the time they were asked to leave. Four of the probes target Republican politicians or their supporters, prosecutors and other officials said.

The emerging details stand in contrast to repeated statements from the Justice Department that six of the Republican-appointed prosecutors were dismissed because of poor performance. In one of the most prominent examples, agency officials pointed to widely known management and morale problems surrounding then-U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan in San Francisco.

But the assertions enraged the rest of the group, some of whom feel betrayed after staying silent about the way they have been shoved from office.

Bud Cummins, the former U.S. attorney in Little Rock, who was asked to resign earlier than the others to make way for a former White House aide, said Justice Department officials crossed a line by publicly criticizing the performance of his well-regarded colleagues....

The decision by Cummins and some of the others to speak out underscores the extent to which the firings have spiraled out of the Justice Department's control. Officials initially sought to obscure the firings even from some senators, and have since issued confusing signals and contradictory information about the episode....

1. Poor strategy by the DoJ. Yes, they can force these people out
but the ex US Attorneys have every right to speak up. Badmouthing them on their way out the door gives them great incentive to do so, since these people want other jobs in the future and don't want 'failure' labels on them for life.

And the criminals within the Unitary Executive are not only warmongering but treasonous. :grr:

They are "the evildoers" with greed and murderous souls.

Impeach NOW! With extreme prejudice.

The only thing they have to fear at this time, is a just God.

7. Duke Cunningham, MZM, The Lincoln Group , ......
.... the corruption runs deep. No wonder "Fat Tony" Gonzales is trying to kill
these investigations.

My God 7 years and 77 million for Clinton and the B.J. .....I remember
the now Fox Spews mouth piece, John Kasich, going on and on about
how important honesty was. :puke:

3. Yes, this is an outrage. More info about fired Kevin Ryan in San Francisco:
And Ryan just recently happened to convict 6 people with ties to Rev. Sun Myung Moon for illegal baby shark poaching. Can't get too close to those extensive Moon-George HW Bush connections, no siree. So Gonzales just *had to let him go.*

4. I am glad to see that the story keeps having legs in the press
there need to be more investigations.

Gonzales has already surpassed Ed Meese as a disaster AG. Heck by comparison, he has even made Ashcroft look not as horrible as he looked in that position.

our press, at least pretends to care about true justice and upholding our Constitution.

8. Bu*h and this PNAC administration will collapse our government
if we do not get rid of them ASAP.

Removing competent, dedicated people and replacing them with clueless cronies is a key ingredient in a recipe for failure within any organization.

10. Hello....as far as I can see, our Gov't has collapsed already. Denial is step
one of the death and dying process (of our gov't that is).
Anger will be the next step ( some are angry, but not enough to take action)
(Bargaining/Depression/acceptance ....much further steps down the road.)

Removal of this administration either by impeachment or the 08' election won't guarantee that the PNAC agenda won't continue.

14. I sure hate to think of what would happen if the inevitable (the collapse) happens sooner than latte
r.... could anyone help me out with this?

I actually did hear a good story(from a DUer) about the far right continuing in power for the next 5 years will be presiding over a time of constant market failure and wars....eventually there will be a violent grass roots movement which will destroy the political machinery of this country as theocrats, libertarians, paleoconservatives, neo-liberal centrists and syndnacists eventually cause soviet-style political and economic collapse. It would seem to be the fitting end of the era of the superpowers as both major political economic structures rose in the 1910s-1940s and collapsed in the 1980s-2010s. What would be left would be, politically, what we had immediately before this period. Several large industrialized countries and their battle over the developing world in the form of colonialism.

only way to learn. Help us all.
The only Super power that comes to mind is China. I have a feeling they will survive far better than we can.

24. Abramoff is just the tip of the iceberg...
Edited on Mon Feb-19-07 05:59 PM by PhilipShore
Abramoff is a product of the Republicans. He was trained by the Republican elite. Follow Abramoff's money and it will lead to Abramoff's trainers.

I am not a lawyer -- but it seems to me the only ones that really have any power -- to follow Anramoff's money trail, are the Justice Department, and now Congress.

26. By tradition, US Attorneys are pretty lame individuals, relying upon daddy's campaign money to get
them the job, but not the Asst. US Attorneys -- they are career DOJ, not just guys with connections who want a nice club tie to wear once the new administration comes into office.

The entire politicization of the career employees at DOJ, DOI, DO eveything is ridiculous, and Andy Jackson would be proud. These Commisars thwart the flow of work and the useful things that the administration purports to perform daily.

Screw BushCo hard, long and fast with sand and Bengay mixed into the lube.

27. Hey, firing officials investigating criminal activity in their own party
is what repukes are all about! Anyone, but them! Laws are for the common folk. I swear they will pay a heavy price politically when all the dust settles - there will be no Republican party after Bush is done with it.

You can't keep the truth buried forever, no matter how many people you fire!
