Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 03:53 PM by DemoTex

Chrome, saddle tanks, and all. This picture really does not do the F-650's obscene size justice. The F-650 I saw, like this one, occupied FOUR parking spaces. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

Lewis Plaza is a local mall in Greenville, SC.

35. I say you've got a fine looking hound
I just don't get why some forms of environmental destruction are shameful but others get a free pass.

I guess the difference is that folks in large vehicles are always destroying the planet but with more reasonable sized vehicles you have to know more background: like how far the trip is and the physical condition of the operator.

67. Conspicuous consumption and the willfully obtuse.
In America, with it's mostly crappy public transport systems and pedestrian unfriendly cities (mine has the third highest pedestrian death toll in the Nation) most of us are forced to own some type of vehicle. We all KNOW, like it or not, that burning fossil fuels harms the environment and keeps us entangled in the Middle East. If we are people of conscience then we do what we can to limit our fossil fuel use. The willfully obtuse will ignore the facts entirely to satisfy their own egos. That's what the owner of the F-650 has done. There's the effort of good citizenship-and then there's being a complete asshole (s(he) chose the later with that purchase). One can't say that the ONLY alternative to living in a 50,000 square foot mega estate is to live in a one room shack, so neither can one say that the ONLY alternative to driving an F-650 is riding a bicycle. Extremes are just that; extremes. Do the best you can within the constraints of your own situation.

80. Since when is a bicycle not a vehicle?
I realize that most people need cars but do they need them all the time? If it's ok to make rude comments about folks who drive large vehicles then I find it perfectly acceptable to make rude comments about folks who use vehicles inappropriately.

Sure, on this message board everyone lives 50 miles from the nearest place of employment or store but in real life I see a significant amount of car trips that are only a couple miles on reasonably safe streets. What's wrong with pointing out that this is a bad thing?

This is a twit indicator. Whoever owns this truck is a massive twit and should be shunned socially.

37. "Gore's private jet"
Your own words betray you. Turn Hannity off, it is all bullshit. Stay away from the rightwing smears and propaganda, or at least learn to not post them here.

"In his private life, Gore tries to reduce his emissions as much as possible. He drives a hybrid, flies commercially whenever he can, and purchases green power. In the few instances where work has demanded that he travel privately, he purchases carbon offsets for the emissions."
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/2/18/14290/7793

And at least get the smear straight. It isn't 'Al Gore's private jet', it is 'the private jet that Al Gore flew'. Can you tell the difference?

42. The clutch in mine (Powerstroke) self destructed last week
One of the torsion springs broke out of its caging in the disk. I came to an off ramp and the clutch would not disenguage. I had an 8,000 pound boat on the back that I had just towed a shade over 500 miles. I was within 15 miles of home. Best luck I've ever had in my life. Beware though, those clutches are expensive. $350 for the parts. Local guy is sticking it in for me for a hundred and a half. I don't have a garage and its far to dam cold and I'm far to dam old to do it myself.

parked in his driveway. I see it every morning I take the kids to school. It's tricked out and painted orange, white and red w/ the landscapers advertisement on the side.

I doubt his business will pick up w/ that monstrosity advertising it. This is a strongly progressive area w/ many more Prius - type vehicles than monster trucks.

Think of this. You dont even know who drives it, and what they use it for. Most likely they'll use it for towing a big camper or something. I'v seen a few of these before on the road. Most of the time they're towing a big trailer or something similar. Any sane person would not be driving it by themselfs daily unless they are going somewhere to use for its intended purpose.

I always wonder if these kind of "macho" machines would sell as well if they had names like "Ford CreamPuff", or "Dodge Weenie", or "Chevy Hyacinth".

Then the buyers could claim that they bought it for utility with some believability.

No you dont, and I dont know either. People that own these F-650's (or a similar vehicle) usually intends to use these for towing big loads only. Maybe thats the only vehicle they can drive at the moment and they have a Civic back at home, again we dont know.

If you see me drive my 16mpg 4x4 4 door Dakota (which has a tounno cover over the bed) by myself, would you assume that I'm just another truck loving shmuck who's trying to "compensate" even though I would most likely have pool cleaning equipment hidden under the tounno cover in the bed?

This bickering over what people drive, is stupid and childish.

71. Aside from all the small dick jokes and crappy mileage cracks,
to me it looks butt-ugly.

If I needed a truck that big, I'd go for the International MXT.

74. Tasteful. A real mini 18 wheeler. And for everyone upthread.....
all the talk of what one does with said 650 - work related? Can we apply that to all the hummers we see in the DFW area. They are all being used for "work - related" purposes? Right? yeah.............................. patrolling the streets, keeping us safe, guess that is why some of the radio stations have the hummer.

I've yet to see this little beauty on the street, when I do I'll probably be tempted to give the salute FudgeStripe suggests using.

Smart Cars will rule someday.

77. This post promotes snobbery and smugness.... but...
It's a pretty fugly truck. Even if it's used for work I'm sure there are more efficient designs out there for whatever that work is.

My biggest complaint about such big vehicles is that I can't see through them, therefore they make it more difficult to drive my tiny-ass car around.

79. I saw one a couple months ago
It had an expensive paint job and stenciling on one side for a get-rich website. The other side had stenciling for a realtor. This was in Boise.
