Huckabee wanted to isolate AIDS patients 08 Dec 2007 Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk." As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies. "If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague," Huckabee wrote.

I think the country would be far better served if we set aside reservations for the religiously insane, let them be as crazy as they want to be without ever being offended by the existence of the rest of us, let them set up their paradises on earth where sin would be completely outlawed. Just allow an appeals process for teenagers to escape because we know that not everyone is susceptible to brainwashing. They could have their 24 hour a day cable with sitcoms from the 50s plus ranting pompadoured preachers and no exposure at all to shows that don't feature either all white casts or the constant selling of Jebus. The problem with ignorance and hate of the type Hucksterbee is pushing is that they seem to be very much more contagious than the HIV virus, a fragile virus that doesn't exist long outside the body and which is destroyed by both oxygen and sunlight and can be blocked by a thin sheet of latex plus a wee amount of spermicide.

If we're serious about quarantining contagion, we should be concentrating on the more serious contagions at work in this country.
