Our local rag pounded Senators Bayh and Lugar for their role in blocking the vote on the energy bill:
Bayh, Lugar help block energy bill

WASHINGTON -- Despite pushing in recent years for the nation to be become more energy independent, Indiana's senators yesterday helped block a vote on a bill aimed at curbing gasoline use and promoting renewable energy.
Sen. Evan Bayh, one of only three Democrats to oppose bringing up the measure, said it would raise Hoosiers' electricity bills too much.
"There are several good things in this bill, including enhanced fuel efficiency standards and increased emphasis on renewable fuels production, which would reduce our oil consumption," Bayh said in a statement.
But the bill "would unduly burden Indiana rate-payers at a time when many Hoosiers are struggling with higher taxes," he said. "And it would place increased costs on Indiana businesses trying to compete in a sluggish economy."

The Gannett story has been picked up by nearly all the local papers in the region, including the Louisville paper. It's good to see Bayh getting chapped for his stance (which was paid for by the Indiana coal lobby) as well as Lugar, who is normally considered to be off limits by the loyal Hoosiers.
