So often when the latest atrocity to freedom or decency or the Constitution is exposed I read of people breathlessly crying, "Send it to KO, send it to KO!" Most here watch and enjoy KO because we believe in what he says and that applies to most of his audience which is small by national standards. Those who do not agree with KO tend not to watch him (how many here spend a lot of time watching the Bush backers and sympathizers?) He is preaching to the choir and his valuable information does not reach the audience that really needs to hear it and rarely does.
One of my favorite movies is "V for Vendetta" (it had better be one of my favorites since I had the V logo tattooed on my shoulder with the word "Freedom" above it and "Forever" below it) which most here are probably familiar with. As far as preaching to the choir goes I think of when V took over the airwaves and forced all the people to hear his message. Wouldn't it be great to hear something like that on every station in prime time? Here is part of V's address:
"...And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent..."
Things may not be quite as bad for us now and we have a different high chancellor, but some of this rings eerily familiar. As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us". None of this happened in a vacuum and Bushco and the neocons are not sinister invaders from another galaxy. They are a parasite which has been allowed to grow and flourish until it threatens to consume its host and this happened while too many Americans have been too comfortable and complacent to care (look at how many Americans cannot be bothered to vote). Even the Democrats became complacent in the years past when they were in power for so many years thinking it would last forever. Nothing does, not Rome, not the U.S.
Will we end in a whimper or in abject terror as the sheeple realize their once comfortable bath is now a pot of boiling water and mutton is on the menu? It would be nice if once, just once, all the people could hear the unfettered truth and hopefully have a lucid moment as they realize, "My god, THIS is what's been happening. This is what is being done in our names?"
