Store mistakenly sells 33-cent gasoline
Drivers Line Up in Rural Wis. After Worker Accidentally Drops Gas to 33 Cents

Staff
AP News

Dec 07, 2007 22:47 EST

Dozens of drivers made a mad rush for cheap gas after a station employee accidentally changed the price to 33 cents a gallon. An employee closing Trig's Minocqua Shell for the night mistakenly entered the price of a gallon of gasoline as 32.9 cents instead of $3.299 on Monday night.

He left about 10 p.m., but drivers could still use their credit cards to buy gas.

Word of the bargain spread fast in the rural northern Wisconsin community, with 42 people buying 586 gallons of gas in an hour and 45 minutes. One person had pumped 27 gallons and two purchased 18 gallons.

Local police saw the horde at the station and called store manager Andrea Reuland, who went to the station and pushed the emergency stop.

5. This happened to me a couple of months ago--
I stopped at a station just after they had changed the prices to 2.79, and I didn't notice until I had finished pumping that I got a full tank for .79 a gallon. I went into the store and notified the clerk and manager--boy, they got it fixed in a hurry!

27. Kudos to you.
Obviously the people in that town thought so little of one of their own neighbors that they chose to call all their family and friends to come fuck the guy over too. The idiots probably thought they were sticking it to big oil. Instead they fucked over a small business owner that is probably barely making ends meet just like them.

10. I remember 5 gals for a buck.
I started driving back in 1961. Gas stations gave out free premiums for fill-ups back then too. Those were the days.

11. people are posting what the price of gas was when they first
started driving.

i'm sitting here thinking: who the fuck can remember that?

i guess it wasn't very important to me because it made absolutely no impression

(and that's the excuse i'm giving for my shitty memory)

13. I can remember the first gas crisis
Even though I was in college and didn't have a car at the time. Seeing all the cars lined up to buy gas, I was happy I didn't have to put up with it. And the thought of charging over 40 cents for gas, when just a month ago all the stations had been selling it for 32.9 a gallon!

18. No death penalty, but my guess would be he could be fired over
this. When I worked at the gas station, they used to fire people for a lot less.

14. My first car was a 66 Mustang
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 04:40 AM by Horse with no Name
It was cherry. My Dad restored it for me and gave it to me for Christmas, my birthday, etc ad infinitum.
It was mint except for one thing.
The gas gauge was unreliable.
I remember everytime I left town I put $1 of gas in it(we lived 5 miles out of town)--and on Saturdays I put $5 in it.
That poor car would have probably died if I ever filled it up.

22. Mine was a 68 javelin
which was beat up and the gas guage did not work. I also put a dollar in it whenever i went anywhere. I was pretty good at estimating but still ran out of gas many times. Triple A finally threatened to drop me if I did not get it fixed cause they were tired of bringing me gas when I ran out while on the road. Ah good times.

26. They dont need an employee on site during the night time hours.
People can still use the pumps if they have a credit or debit card, but those who have just cash are out of luck till the station opens again.

The only people here getting screwed are the employees, not the oil execs.

getting a full tank--or close to it--for $2.00. In a per gallon case, I recall about 28.9¢ at the pump.
