"Freedom Requires Religion" = CULT MENTALITY!
I can just picture Rev. Moon telling people, "I've made you so FREE!" Of course, he's a good Republican too.

1. Notice he said "religion" not "spirituality".
Republican christians are usually into their religion. Democrat christians tend to be more into their spirituality and faith. Vastly different things.

12. Freedom TOLERATES Religion
I just read this book called "Escape" about this woman who was born into & escaped from Warren Jeff's fundie Mormon cult. "The Prophet" chose a 50 year old husband for her when she was a teenager, she became his fifth wife. For 17 years she was a domestic slave to the dominant wife who resented her presence, and a sex slave at night. She escaped in the middle of the night with 8 children, they were living like virtual slaves. She had PTSD two years after fleeing.

I'm quite sure she doesn't think that religion = freedom!

14. Here's What I Don't Get About That...
This abusing of pre teen and teen aged girls by making them wives of old and young men without any semblence of obeying the laws of the country has been going on in Utah/Nevada/ AZ. for years. If the 'regular' Mormons, who are very very strong in these states, want it to stop it would stop. Where have they been on this issue?
We lived in Flagstaff in 1967 and those little towns where it was going on were well known then. Where is law enforcement? Why is this allowed? These are the same questions I asked then. It is a degradation of women and female children, and a belief that women are for the enjoyment of men only. It is sick. Mormons could make it stop. If Mitt is so powerful, and such a good Mormon, if he would make such a good President of our country, why isn't he insisting that these people obey the laws of the country?

AND while we're at it, please be informed that many of the men in these little towns DO NOT marry the other six wives, only the first. Of course they are married to the other six, seven or eight under God. That way they can collect government aid to dependent children. We don't want to provide medical care to the sick children of illegals but we support the children brought into the world by these bozos?

A trial of one of the leaders of one of these groups was recently held, but that was just one man. I doubt very much it has been stopped.

15. FLDS is truly the American Taliban
I was totally shocked at this book, it's so much worse than I thought. If a woman is sick (especially menstrual/pregnancy issues) she is thought to be "out of harmony" with her husband so she doesn't day admit to being sick. When Warren Jeffs took over he decided that "God's People" don't need outside intervention and all the wives were ordered to give birth at home. She talked of desperate midwives, when faced with complications, using sewing scissors and dental floss on these women, and they are not allowed to scream or they are punished. Warren Jeffs rounded up all the dogs and shot them. I mean it is truly the American Taliban.

16. FLDS -- much worse than I thought!
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 03:46 PM by K8-EEE
That book just blew me away. They are allowed NO contact with the outside world, no news, TV, reading non scriptures, nothing. The men keep the license plates so if they were to attempt to drive out of town they would get pulled over and sent back. Why? Because most of the law enforcements outside the compounds are MAINSTREAM LDS. They are complicit!

These women are beaten for having menstrual or pregnancy related problems as it means "they are not in harmony" with their husbands who are their "priesthood." They are expected to have 12 - 16 pregnancies and those girls are bartered off to the well-off FLDS as the more wives they have, the more their status. It is Sick, sick SICK and the very opposite of freedom! Total slavery -

If we need to do these glorious liberations - we can start right here in the United States!!

7. Funny how the people trying most ardently to restrict my freedoms,
are doing so under the guise of their "deeply held religious beliefs".

Freedom Requires Religion indeed. :eyes:

11. WTF with Tweety -- didn't he say simething like "I saw greatness"
OMG -- I thought he looked nervous and snaky and it was a stupid speech -- the "I'm a persecuted Mormon" thing, gimme a break. When his dad ran for prez in the 60's there was not one peep about his religion, the "Religious Right" are the ones creating the "religious tests for office" that are prohibited in the constitution.
