Just heard something interesting about Cheney's visit to my city today
My friend knows a lady who is friends with the couple who hosted the fundraiser at their home where Cheney appeared today. The secret service was in their house 8 days ago to get ready. They put something on the windows of the house to make them bullet proof. They installed EIGHT phone lines in the house. The wife said that by today, she was ready to kill her husband for agreeing to have this fundraiser.

Now here's the kicker: they only raised $30 - $40K.

Here are links to some local coverage of Darth's visit:

1. There's a lot of folks out there that hate Bush and Cheney.
They also act paranoid.

6. I have often wondered
how many threats they get and if there have been any actual attempts to kill either of them. I doubt very seriously we would ever know about any of these unless they were high profile incidents, like when Reagan was shot.

I wondered this same thing when Clinton was in office and the right wing hated him so much.

15. Geez . . . when Clinton was pres we had Senator Helms threatening him---!!!
Dems too polite losers]

but . . . we had people firing guns outside the gates of the WH ---

Someone else flying a plane into what he hoped was the pres' bedroom!!!

Much of this incited by right-wing radio and Repug propaganda ---

2. God - I bet their neighbors weren't to happy about the situation either. I'm
guessing there were restrictions put on their comings and goings at least while he was there.

3. I wonder what the bill
to the taxpayers for
dick's medical entourage
and the secret service
detail? With that figured
in, the event probably
ended in the red....and
dick didn't have to shoot
anyone to make it that way.

8. We foot the bill for all that, obviously
So whatever money Dick raised all went into the GOP coffers. And boy, do they need it.

I have to say, though, that my first guess to the question in the original post was, "The rivers turned to blood?"

13. Last time he was here a friend of mine was protesting outside the place he appeared
and a local right wing radio station asked my friend what would he tell Cheney if he could talk to him. My friend said "I would tell Cheney we have enough murderers here in Kansas City and we really don't need to bring any in from out of town."

14. That's really not very much money
It's amazing he brought in no more than that.

And this republican he came to raise money for doesn't have a prayer of winning his election. He is running against a Dem who has been in the seat since 98. He won over 60% of the vote in 06. Remember this is the most liberal part of Kansas, the state where the republicans are dying a painful death.

7. I couldn't even watch the entire video. The nerve of that man saying that
'we need to give the troops the best equipment and support' to help them win this war. Biden had to FIGHT for the MRAP vehicles and the main criticism was MONEY.

These guys are vile human beings.

9. At the end, they interview a veteran
who says oh yes, we need to give them the best equipment. By that time, I was screaming at my computer. Did they deliberately invite stupid veterans to come hear Cheney today???
