Branson will vote on whether to support Christmas

City leaders will vote next week on whether the southwestern Missouri resort town officially supports celebrating Christmas.

The resolution proposed Wednesday by two members of the Branson Board of Aldermen would call on businesses to use decorations and otherwise support what it calls a traditional American Christmas.

It also would state the Board of Aldermen's support for the celebration of Christmas.

Stephen Marshall, one of the sponsors, said visitors came to Branson for Christmas and expected to see it celebrated.

1. Spend money, spend money, go into debt, use Visa and Master Card. $$$$$$.
Haven't these bozos read Little House on the Prairie? Don't they know that Baby Caroline will be happy with a string of Ma's buttons, and Laura and Mary only want a stick of horehound candy apiece?

Yeesh.

2. They already have a Trail of Lights,
Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede's living manger scene, and other Christmas stuff at the other shows--they advertising it enough. This is just more publicity hype to draw people to the area to spend their dough.

3. These people understand NOTHING ...

These people understand NOTHING about traditional American Christmas. In the time of the founders, Christmas was a cross between New Years Eve and Halloween. Drunks going from door to door demanding drink and drunken revelry. There is a REASON that Washington attacked on Christmas.

Modern Christmas tradition is a creation of Charles Dickens and "The Night Before Christmas". The recent outrage over the "Holiday Tree" is especially humorous given the relatively modern adoption of the tradition from Germany in Victorian England and it's origin's as a pagan ritual. Then again, Christmas was originally a pagan ritual. The day was superimposed upon the feast of Sol Invictus so that those who kept to the "old holidays" would have something new to call it.

Now the secular Christmas ... I guess that is something interesting. Though, I'm tired of getting crap from others destined for the garbage heap. I'm tired of phoney smiles. I'm tired of everyone showing off their new "stuff". I'm tired of the shallowness and the uber-consumerism. I hate Christmas!!! Bahh Humbug.
