Another day, another headline-grabbing scandal from the Bush Crime Family!

For the second time this week, the New York Times broke out its LARGE FONTS for an above-the-fold front page bombshell about the illegal machinations of Team Bush. This time the CIA was caught destroying videotaped evidence of "enhanced interrogations" of detainees, who allegedly were members of Al Qaeda. Nixon would be proud.

"The Central Intelligence Agency in 2005 destroyed at least two videotapes documenting the interrogation of two Al Qaeda operatives in the agency�s custody, a step it took in the midst of Congressional and legal scrutiny about the C.I.A�s secret detention program, according to current and former government officials," the Times reports, adding that "The C.I.A. said today that the decision to destroy the tapes had been made �within the C.I.A. itself.� The rationale for destroying evidence? Um, to protect the safety of undercover officers and because the tapes no longer had intelligence value. Yeah, that�ll work. The agency was headed at the time by Porter J. Goss. Through a spokeswoman, Mr. Goss has declined to comment on the destruction of the tapes.

The videotapes were recorded in 2002 after President Bush had authorized the use of so-called "enhanced" interrogation methods, including temperature extremes and sleep deprivation, as well as waterboarding; in other words, U.S. Government sanctioned torture.

On top of Bush's obvious lies about Iran's nuclear ambitions and visions of World War Three, now we find out his CIA first denied the existence of these tapes, then destroyed them knowing that that Congress, the 9-11 Commission, and the federal courts would want to see them.

According to The Washington Post, the timing of the tape incident is highly significant:
"The startling disclosures came on the same day that House and Senate negotiators reached an agreement on legislation that would prohibit the use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation tactics by the CIA and bring intelligence agencies in line with rules followed by the U.S. military. The measure, which needs approval from the full House and Senate, would effectively set a government-wide standard for legal interrogations by explicitly outlawing the use of simulated drowning, forced nudity, hooding, military dogs and other harsh tactics against prisoners by any U.S. intelligence agency."

This week's incident comes just weeks after a similar CIA tape incident. Reuters reported on Nov. 13 that: "The CIA erred in twice telling a court in the case of alleged September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui that it did not have any recordings of interrogations of "enemy combatants," when in fact it had three video or audio tapes, according to a letter released on Tuesday. Prosecutors only recently learned of the tapes from the CIA, they said in a letter to the judge who presided over the case and to a U.S. appeals court that considered the Moussaoui case."

How about now, Pelosi? Is this enough?
