Harriet Miers Knew of Destruction of Interrogation Tapes
http://abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=3971180&page=1

ABC News has learned that at least one White House official knew about the CIA's planned destruction of videotapes in 2005 that documented the interrogation of two al Qaeda operatives: then-White House Counsel Harriet Miers.

Three officials told ABC News Miers urged the CIA not to destroy the tapes.

Intelligence officials say the decision to destroy the tapes was made by Jose Rodriguez, former head of the CIA's covert-operations division. Even former CIA director Porter Goss did not know the tapes were destroyed. The White House said today President Bush didn't know either.

Congress is now demanding to know why the CIA destroyed those tapes, just as its interrogation methods were facing intense public scrutiny. To some prominent members of Congress there's only one explanation: a cover-up.

2. Hey, that reminds me...
How come nobody objected when Ms. Miers didn't get an "up or down vote" in the Senate?

17. Or some high-level spectators perhaps?
Or high level participants.

Anything we can imagine is a distinct possibility.

11. Bush can pardon violations of U.S, law (like destruction of
evidence) but not violations of international law like torture. He fucking knew, so did Goss.

12. How can the CIA continue to allow itself to take the fall for the biggest
administration disasters? This agency has imploded. One reason is that the CIA was purged after 2004 of all but bushie faithfuls....another reason could be that the real truth behind all this is so horrific that the CIA is trying to protect our entire government from imploding, believing that there would be chaos and upheaval if everyone suddenly believed that a rogue cabal of corporatists has run the country into a ditch enriching themselves immeasurably in the process.

13. They have no such plan
Notice how quickly the WH admitted that Harriet was briefed. They're still lying but clearly they received a call. Someone has the goods on that meeting. Looks to me like the intelligence agencies are about to beat Bush and Cheney at their own game.

14. I want to know how long it took to decide to destroy the tapes
This happened not too long after Miers requested that Bush withdraw her nomination for the Supreme Court. I wonder how much she knew of the torture practices while being nominated.

18. I'd be handing out subpoenas right and left
and bringing every single person connected to these torture videotapings
up before congress... and I'd further recommend that anyone responsible
for torture (and the coverup) be brought up for war crimes.

this is no matter for polite politics. it's criminal.

19. It is NOT criminal!
There is not a single Democrat involved, therefore no criminal act can have occurred.

I rest my case.
