Clinton haters are the ugliest, most evil, scariest people
Politically, there existed a fervent movement that believed Dumond was the victim of a Bill Clinton vendetta, carried out by the state's Democratic political machine. That movement, which had helped Huckabee ascend to power just months earlier in 1996, ramped up pressure on the newly elected governor to rectify a wrong.

Huckabee himself was either friends with or associated to several of the key activists who publicly criticized Dumond's arrest. And Huckabee's particular religious background made him disposed to believing that Dumond -- who would go on to rape and murder another woman upon his release -- was either innocent of his crimes or had been rehabilitated in prison.

"Huckabee saw East Arkansas County as a Democratic political machine and probably assumed the worst," Jay Barth, a political science professor at Arkansas' Hendrix College and an authority on state politics, told the Huffington Post. "There were people pushing that story and Huckabee was clearly susceptible to it. But he also had this basic notion that people can be taken care of through the system... You have to recognize what an immature - in terms of time - governor, Huckabee was at that point. I don't know if the Mike Huckabee of four years later would have been susceptible to these forces."

Indeed, just one year before Huckabee ascended to the governor's chair, another criminal case became a vehicle for Clinton hatred. In 1995, a woman named Sharlene Wilson was convicted of several counts of criminal drug possession. She became a cause celebre for conservatives who theorized that Wilson had damaging information on Clinton and his brother Roger's supposed drug use (among other nefarious activities) and was set up and put in jail because of it.

"I think the hatred to Clinton played a big role in Huckabee's decision ," said a prominent legal figure in the state, who asked to remain anonymous. "If there wasn't a connection to Clinton he wouldn't have been involved and there must have been something deeply affecting him that would have caused him to go to the parole board and lobby for this."

I didn't really understand the hatred the GOP had for Clinton, but this one really opened my eyes. :wow:

If Huckabee gets the nom, he loses.

7. David Brock described the basic Arkansas political tactic as such
Create the most absurd story possible the stranger the better and then just hammer it home

You have to understand that Arkansas is, in parts Appalachia without the PR, and over elevated in self importance due to the fact that it isn't West Virginia or Mississippi with a good dose of Chicago crime influence to boot.

All the whacked out stories about Clinton originated in The Natural State and were just picked up and repeated by the Scaife et al machine.

There is a corporate lot that has imposed power since the last century.

They were never interested in "democracy" or, good GRIEF, sustaining the Constitutional integrity of this democratic nation.

They OFF-SHORED to avoid lack of 'popularity'.

Now, they are ON SHORE.

Do these people INVEST in a democratic nation?
:rofl:

15. Missouri murder controversy hounds Huckabee

MCCLATCHY NEWS
December 6, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said this week that he is "heartbroken" over the pain suffered by the families of two women murdered in Kansas City more than six years ago.

Authorities say both victims, Carol Shields and Sara Andrasek, were killed by Wayne DuMond, who was released from an Arkansas prison in 1999, a year before Shields' murder. Their mothers say Huckabee is responsible, at least in part, for DuMond's release.

"What a fool," said Lois Davidson, Shields' mother. "Thinking he could rule the country when he couldn't even do a good job as governor of Arkansas."

Janet Williams, Andrasek's mother, said, "Wayne DuMond should have never been on the streets in Missouri. ... When politics are involved, people get hurt, and Sara and Carol Shields paid the ultimate price with their lives."

"I'm deeply sorry for what they've been through," Huckabee said in a telephone interview with The Kansas City Star on Tuesday. "Nothing I can do or say can reduce their level of grief." But the Republican said he wanted the families -- and the public -- to fully understand his role in DuMond's controversial release from custody. "I should be held responsible for the things I did," Huckabee said. "The one thing I didn't do is let him go."

DuMond died in 2005 in a Missouri prison, where he was serving time for killing Shields. He was never charged with killing Andrasek, although prosecutors say they have "no doubt" he did.

<skip>

A jury sent DuMond to prison in 1985 for the rape of Ashley Stevens, 17, a distant relative of then-Gov. Bill Clinton. While awaiting that trial, DuMond was castrated -- some say by assailants, others say at his own hand. But his conviction and imprisonment became a rallying point for Clinton critics and some Arkansas Republicans, who said they believed DuMond was innocent and in prison because of the Clinton connection.

<skip>

Davidson and Williams say Huckabee has never called them to apologize or to explain his part in the case, even though he told interviewers he "felt horrible" about DuMond's release.

I had no idea until earlier this week that Huckabee was connected to them. And since I think he is a freak anyway, I certainly hope this story derails his campaign.

20. You should have seen Bill Moyers Journal tonight...
Maybe you can get a podcast off NPR site. Bill showed some really awful stuff about her from Facebook and various Repug ads. Some woman stood up at a McCain rally and said, "How do we defeat the bitch?" and McCain didn't even have the common decency to tell her that was inappropriate, as Moyers so aptly stated.

I don't care for Hillary. S'pose that'll get me in trouble here. I don't "hate" her. I just think there are others who would do a better job. But I think the way the Neocons malign her is revolting. They should be dealing with the issues.

26. People on the right couldn't get through a day without
hearing some dirt on the Clintons. They needed the dirt whether it was real or not.

The right said Hillary wanted children to be able to sue their parents. They said Hillary practiced witchcraft. The insanity was so widespread that a ridiculous story like the Clintons killing their friend and lawyer was taken seriously and investigated over and over.

If Hillary gets the nomination, I hope the Clinton haters are exposed for what they are. They got away with it last time. I don't believe Hillary is the type to let them get away with it again.
