Daytona 500 question
I know it really doesnt matter in the scheme of things, but what in the hell are We The People doing sponsoring a Nascar driver(Army, Mark Martin)?:wtf: No, its a small thing when you think about what we waste tax dollar on, but it sure doesnt make me happy to know my money is going towards this end.
Rant off.

19. The Air Force is too
The Army also sponsors a Top Fuel dragster.

Yell at the Recruiting Command, not me. This sponsorship works better than the "Army Strong" ads they came up with.

4. Hey, that's the demographic they are going after
I know there's military personnel of all stripes but the same group that wants to kill some A-rabs is the group that watches NASCAR.

5. Not all of us who are NASCAR fans want to "sill some A-rabs".
Lots of NASCAR fans do not fit the redneck stereotype in the least.

6. Actually, they have been for a very long time ...
... 15 years at least.

In one 500 - I think it was during Gulf War I - every branch of the service had a car.

It's basically a recruiting tool for those young motor head dudes with nothing else on their minds.

Oh, and Martin is a total Class Act. It's not his choice who sponsors his car, he's just a paid employee of the car's owner, who makes the deals with the sponsors.

7. Wow. Who would have thought that a DUer would complain about Nascar?
Some of us actually like the sport. It's not just for redneck southerners.

I agree that the US Army sponsorship is messed up, but is this rant really necessary?

8. I agree, but I love NASCAR. Taxpayer money shouldn't be
spent there. More Importantly, we shouldn't have shipped 354 tons of cash to Iraq. This Republican powered Military is spiraling out of control. That's not the fault of the troops on the ground.

9. I wondered that myself as I sat and watched
My brother loves watching Nascar so I thought I'd watch and see what he found so fascinating. Sorry to say, I was bored as shit. It wasn't entertaining, it wasn't excinting, it wasn't even amusing. After falling asleep once I turned it off and went out to feed the horses. The only question I had (other than WTF do people see in this boring event) is Why should taxpayers foot the bill for the government to sponsor a car?

18. Boring? That was one of the wildest races in the history
of automobile racing.

The military has been using their advertising budget on racing for several years. If we go back to the draft, then we won't have to worry about this anymore. Until then, the military has to advertise and recruit. That's not an easy assignment when you have an idiot as Commander In Chief.

22. It helps if you know the ins and outs, like pit strategy, etc.
Then you understand it better, because you understand what they're doing.

Having said that, however, you may be one of those people who will never like it.

is me trying to pass all the tractors going 10 mph on the 2 lane county roads around here before I get clobbered by the guy coming at me at 70.

Too bad you can't get paid like the NASCAR drivers do when you "win" one of those races!

a Nascar driver(Army, Mark Martin)?"

First of all, we aren't sponsoring the driver Mark Martin, who btw is my favorite driver. the US Army sponsors the car, not the driver. Mark Martin is an upstanding and honorable veteran driver who was hired by the car's owner to drive a few of the 34 season races.

I was crushed to see him lose the Daytona 500 an hour ago by just .02 sec. Your obviously clueless comment doesn't help ease the pain.

I love Mark, and think he's a great person.

And yes, Mark doesn't sponsor the car; the Army does.

20. Sucked big time, Patsy
Mark is the favorite driver of my youngest sister (my whole family loves NASCAR -- probably because our parents used to race, so we grew up with it). He's also been a long-time favorite of mine, too.

:hi:

Harvick was one of my drivers for fantasy NASCAR. The other three were wrecked during the course of the race.

24. It's a volunteer Army.
Advertising is part of recruiting, just like the "Army of One," "We Do More By 9AM," "Not Just a Job, An Adventure," "A Few Good Men," etc. Guys, especially young guys, watch NASCAR. I don't see the problem?

Does any military advertising bug you, or just this?
