People Brave Frigid Temperatures For Free Food
POSTED: 8:28 am EST December 6, 2007
UPDATED: 12:15 pm EST December 6, 2007

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio -- Scores of people camped out under blankets, in sleeping bags and in tents overnight for today's grand opening of a new Chick-fil-A in Cuyahoga Falls.

NewsChannel5's Jack Marschall helped usher the crowd in when the doors opened at 6 a.m. live on Good Morning Cleveland.

A one-year supply of free Chick-fil-A Combo Meals was awarded to the first 100 adults in line. One man came as far away as Maryland for the opening of the restaurant.

This is the first stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls.

Chick-fil-A is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Just a reminder that food supplies in pantries are drying up. Don't forget the poor and homeless during this Winter season. Dropping off a few cans does help.

2. I doubt that many of them were standing there out of "need"
Plenty of people will stand in line for freebies. Concert tickets, gas, DVD's, a year's worth of fried chicken on a soggy bun...announce on the radio that you're giving it away and watch the crowd form.

3. We have an outfit in our small Minnesota Town
that gathers excess food from distrubitors and once a month they sell them. You are entitled to take three big boxes full and the food is fresh. It cost $15.00 and is open to all. It used to be crowded, but it is now bedlam. And the people who are coming are not all the working poor and seniors. Most of the people say without this supply they couldn't make it thru the month. It is not staples, it is stuff like cottage cheese, frozen fruit etc. And it is a blessing to people. Some wanted to know why it wasn't put in the food banks, but food banks use only non-perisable food and this is fresh.
