7. Are the prices pretty close all over the country?
I know right now, here in the states, I'm paying $2.87/gal in Tenn, but in Florida & California it's close to $4/gal... It should be the same price in every state, as far as I'm concerned,....

6. Sounds right
but a lot of the price they pay is for taxes that they actually get something from. It is also diffferent for us since we have moved to suburbia and it isn't unusual for people to travel 50-100 miles a day just for work. They also have far advanced public transportation than we do.

8. Have to know tax amount to compare. How much goes to oil company & how much to govt
Presumably the taxes are used to support infrastructure, like roads or other transportation.

13. It would be interesting to see just taxes/gal for different countries.
If I were Queen of the Universe, CEO and top exec profits would be dropped, taxes raised, so the price would stay the same but the money go to help rather than to make the richer richer. Of course division of funds raised by taxes would be different than now also.

14. Up-to-date prices for European countries, and US in comparison, here - and how much UK tax is
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/fuel/index.html

See the Word doc for Nov 2007. Average petrol price in the UK is 101.5p per litre - the US average they quote works out at 40.21p per litre. The UK price is 65.2% tax - so the price excluding tax is 35.3p per litre. Taking an exchange rate of $2.03=£1, that would be .353 * 2.03 * 3.78 = $2.71 per US gallon.
