I need to know: Am I just a cold blooded a**hole?
I've been watching the coverage of the Mall shooting in Omaha and saw some reports that the shooter has apparently killed himself. To that I say, good riddance to bad rubbish if that was indeed the shooter. Now my neighbor says I am just cold blooded for saying something like that. Quite frankly, I will not change my opinion, but I like to think of myself as a fairly mild mannered guy. So DUers, I ask you, is my view just mean and nasty? Or is it justified? This guy caused an awful lot of havoc and ruined a lot of people's holidays.

2. Nope. I'm with you. I'm tired of this sort of thing, so: good riddance to bad rubbish.

3. Since we don't know much about the shooter, perhaps.
I'm afraid that the shooter may have been either
a traumatized Iraq vet or the victim of unmonitered
pharma cartel psych drugs.

I am not black and white on psych meds btw-
but know that far too many people are prescribed
them with out proper supervision.

In either of those scenarios, I fell nothing but sorrow
for the shooter and the victims and disgust for
a government who cares so little about our vets
and mentally ill.

4. Why should you value his life more than he did?

When I worked in the newsroom, and something like this went down, we'd all declare him "Guilty! Next case."

5. No, you're not. I agree with you
Monsters like that should kill themselves, and the sooner the better, before they are able to destroy more lives.

7. What if the shooter was an untreated Iraq vet with PTSD?

12. If he is an Iraq vet, do you think it will be reported?
I know if he was on un supervised psych meds, it wont.

14. Probably not,
but I don't know how they can keep that secret. If he's a vet, then a lot of people served with him.

8. Self-destruction is certainly tragic enough as it is...
But when you opt to take innocent strangers down with you, who had nothing to do with your problems, then it's awfully hard to find sympathy.

11. i understand, but that isnt who i am. i have yet to celebrate or cheer anyones
death. just doesnt do it for me.

besides i think it is ultimate in coward to cause death and destruction when really his goal is his own death.

13. Cold, but not necessarily mean. Mean would be saying that to his mom.
The man was likely seriously mentally ill, though not necessarily. I can't say without all of the information, which I doubt the news is reporting or even has yet. While mental illness does not excuse his actions, it is sad that he wasn't receiving the care he needed to prevent this from happening, and now a whole bunch of survivors have to live with it all, including the shooter's family and friends. It is cold and insensitive to say he had it coming, but it is also an acknowledgment that his death is one solution that appeals to peoples' sense of vengeance, given the number of innocent lives he took before he died. Whether or not you are justified in thinking and feeling the way you do requires that we know a whole lot more about you and is really something only you should be deciding anyway.

15. Yup
You got it right. I always wish that the shooter would just shoot him/herself first and leave other people out of it.
