"...just to show he can."
---

Robert Scheer regarding Bush's push for war with Iran and the subsequent NIE report:

"It’s humiliating to all of us who believe in a free press, separation of powers and individual liberty that a system of government designed by its founders to hold leaders accountable can be so easily manipulated by an unremarkable loser who has been rewarded throughout his life for screwing up. It is hoped that this time around the truth will catch up with him before he gets us in yet another bloody war, just to show he can."

6. thats what I say too
if we don't get that one part of our democracy right we are truly screwed. a free, open and honest press is the foundation of which the house of democracy sits upon, well we've lost it the press and subsequently our democracy also went by way of it.

3. I don't think he wanted war.
I think he wanted to raise the price of oil for his buddies again.

9. Ya think?
30-50 dollars a barrel in pure profit because of "risk" is a powerful motive to threaten war, but not to actually wage it.

12. I think either way was fine with him.
The end result is the same, much more money for his pals.

I notice he's still ramping up the "risk" this morning even after he was told he was full of shit. Let's see if crude prices rise or fall today.

5. War is useful for him to suppress opposition
and to smear anybody who dares question the Emporer ...

10. It is also good to line the pocketbook, if you are heavily
invested in a commodity that quadruples in price because of your actions/rhetoric.

7. when it comes right down to it he couldn't care shit for his buddies either
the little wonder is in awe with the power that war brings, in awe as a kid is with a new toy. lil britches is headed for a future he as of right now in denial of, lots of troubles for him in his future. I wouldn't want to be him in any way shape or form. I am not feeling any bit of compassion for him, not one iota, in fact I'm reveling in the fact he is headed for a future of hell, after all its the least I could do.

8. Yes, he did.
"He was thinking about invading Iraq in 1999," said author and Houston Chronicle journalist Mickey Herskowitz. "It was on his mind. He said, 'One of the keys to being seen as a great leader is to be seen as a commander-in-chief.' And he said, 'My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it.' He went on, 'If I have a chance to invade…, if I had that much capital, I'm not going to waste it. I'm going to get everything passed that I want to get passed and I'm going to have a successful presidency.'"

http://www.tompaine.com/articles/2005/06/20/why_george_went_to_war.php

War for his buddies (oil, defense contractors, neocons, etc.)
War for his "political capital"
War for his re-election
War for his "legacy"
War for his demented ego

There were so many reason for Bush to want war. Not a one had to do with defending the country or bringing democracy to Iraq.

11. He has two wars...
I am saying I think he wanted to threaten Iran but not actually go to war.

It was good for the family business.

14. I understand your point about Iran
but I think he will be personnaly disappointed when we don't "get to invade". He likes war, no skin off his back. Personally, I don't think warmongers easily resist the temptation. Additionally, another war with Iran would make the price of oil skyrocket. It's the generals who aren't buying this one.

16. Exactly...
Bush may want war, period. Fair point.

He knows he is not going to get it with Iran, yet he is still hyping it.

My post should have been "War isn't his current endgame", or something to that effect.

15. Power
That is what this is all about.
The power to dominate the oil market.
The power to dominate the world.
The power to "disappear" anybody that crosses him.
The power to turn this democracy into a fascist state.
The power of life and death.
The power that is ordained by God.
The power to forge your own truths.
The power that comes from listening to the voices.

This power is an aphrodisiac and it has little georgie by the nuts and won't let go.

Little georgie IS nuts and needs to be confined to a little bitty room with no light and have sensory deprivation--for life.
