General from MIT says UN Resolution on Iran ends Feb. 21st....Case for Strategic Bombing..
Edited on Sun Feb-18-07 02:15 PM by KoKo01
John Roberts on CNN's Week at War had panel with General (from MIT) says UN Resolution on Iran runs out on Feb. 21st. If Iran hasn't complied then we could strategically Bomb their sites since we already have aircraft carriers in the area.

Feb. 21st is Day before President's Day and Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. Congress is on Recess and Europe is in Carnivale celebrations. Unless UN extends the Resolution will Bush find the timing of President's Day and Ash Wednesday just too tempting to "Bomb?" With Congress out and holiday weeks everywhere....would that be the perfect timing and ghoulish delight of Bush/Cheney and his NeoCon crazies?

Two other Generals on the panel warned that Pelosi has said that Bush doesn't have authority to Bomb Iran and that it wouldn't be necessary if we secure the borders.

Just passing this along.....

On Edit: Seems the MIT General was talking about UN Resolution 1771...something Bolton got through.
I posted a snip downthread after checking it out. Doesn't look like Chimp can go in on Feb. 22nd..without the Council Committee meeting about the expiration...but that probably wouldn't stop him since he's working like crazy to find a distraction from the bad news falling on his head.

UN SECURITY COUNCIL REPORT ..UPCOMING FEBRUARY EVENTS.

Expected Council Action

The Council on 23 December unanimously
adopted resolution 1737 calling on Iran to
suspend all proliferation-sensitive nuclear
activities, including all enrichment-related
and reprocessing activities and work on
heavy water-related projects. The resolution
also banned trade with Iran of all items, materials,
equipment, goods and technology that
could contribute to Iran’s proliferationsensitive
nuclear activities. The resolution
listed those specific items considered as
“proliferation-sensitive” using the guidelines
of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and
the listings of the Missile Technology Control
Regime (MTCR).

By February 21, 60 days after the resolution,
the Director General of the IAEA must report
to the Council on whether Iran has suspended
uranium-enrichment activities. The
Council threatened “further appropriate
measures” under Chapter VII, article 41, of
the UN Charter in event of non-compliance.
The sanctions committee held its first meeting
on 23 January. The resolution also
requested that all states report to the committee
on steps taken to implement the
measures within 60 days. The reports are
therefore due by 21 February.

The committee
is also expected to report to the Council
on the fulfilment of its mandate every 90
days; its first report is due on 21 March. At
press time, it had yet to adopt its guidelines.
Iran was critical of the resolution. However,
although Iran had previously threatened to
withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty
and terminate its IAEA membership, Iranian
officials only said that was still an option.
But there were reports on 22 January that
Iran denied entry of 38 IAEA inspectors and
subsequently expelled the leader of the
IAEA mission.

Pursuant to resolution 1737, the IAEA has
suspended some technical aid projects
in Iran.
EU foreign ministers on 22 January
announced a decision to ban trade with Iran
in all the goods on the NSG

7. Kick...just so we aren't "surprised" when we wake up one morning
in the next few weeks and see Blitzer on CNN talking about "US STRIKES STRATEGIC WEAPONS MUNITIONS DEPOTS IN IRAQ! MILITARY SAYS THESE TARGETS WERE SUPPLYING ARMS THAT WERE KILLING US SOLDIERS..."

Just gave your "RSS FEED," in case....
