Aw...the people at that "other site" gave me my own thread.
I'm touched.

And they posted my "controversial" thread in its entirety. heh heh.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2395947&mesg_id=2395947

I'm a third-rate sci-fi author, apparently. Not that they've ever read my stuff. Just knee-jerk reactionary bullshit from the usual suspects. The conjecture is that Heinlein is rolling over in his grave.

Oh, I agree. But I'd guess that Heinlein's coffin-whirling has more to do with the authoritarian government they support than anything I might have to say. Though he was no friend of liberals, he would've hated these assholes at least as much for helping to destroy the Constitution.

And as far as "loving to hate me," they just don't know me well enough yet.

One went so far as to say he prints my postings here to keep on his bedside table in case he can't fall asleep.

I just got a ton of hits from their site linked to mine. Doubt any will buy my books, but you never know. There might be a potential fan in there somewhere.

Now at least they know who I am.

10. They have a tendency to hump the ankles. Crawl right up the leg if you
don't swat em off! Some get to be really BIG, the size of a rhino big. Rare indeed are these, they tend to be the owner of That Site and his closest lieutenants.

Average ones can be kept off with simple bugspray.

Wait until they get going on 'creating' your biography - keeping track of mine over there is SO entertaining!

Posted here recently that I was aiming a piece at the "lurkers whose home site exists solely for the purpose of discussing DU", and someone there said, "Hey, she's talking about us!" (So at least they're honest as to the true nature of their 'political website').

I just wish someone would get off their lazy ass and change their 'home page' news story once in a while -- they sometimes leave the same thing up there for four days at a stretch. Just shows you how into political news they really are.

Anyway, here's to you, my friend: :toast:

(Oh, and BTW - if you use the 'toast' emoticon, to them that means you're obviously an alcoholic.)

27. I posted your "Saying Goodbye" in the religion forum at Craigs List
I think a few heads exploded there... some of the replies were almost comical.. if they hadn't been serious.

I still have it posted on one of my sites:

"Saying Goodbye"

Since the Muddle East has yet again exploded into its own particular version of insanity, it seems all too likely that the time of the Rapture is almost upon us, and all those godly folks will be taking their leave of this mortal coil by being sucked up into heaven to leave us sinners in the foulness of the time of Tribulation.

This being the case, I thought I'd provide a handy guide for the heretics, pagans, and other non-believers to say goodbye to their soon-to-be-departing loved ones.

1. Pack warm clothing. It gets cold up there on the clouds, and your loved ones will need extra sweaters and a good winter coat.

2. Include no worldly entertainment. The rest of their eternal existence will be spent groveling before God, so they will no longer need their favorite novels (probably written by unrepentant sinners who won't be in heaven anyway) or DVDs. And, yes, this does include their extensive porn collections.

3. Include extra underwear. The process of being sucked into heaven will most likely cause some people to release their bladders and/or bowels, and therefore it's a good idea to include as many pairs of underwear as physically possible, considering the room required by winter clothing.

4. Pictures of loved ones. A group photo of all members of the family NOT considered likely candidates for Rapture would be a wonderful going away present.

5. A satellite map of Earth, so when they're looking down upon high, observing the carnage, they are more easily able to locate their loved ones' locale.

33. Heinlein was a classic libertarian. (Note the small "l".)
He promoted the idea that citizenship should be earned by military service. And rugged individualism was his marque.

My favorite was the "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress." I named several generations of cats after characters in that book.

I can't imagine what I said that would rile them so. Now they've gone into an orgy of deconstruction...comparing my stuff to comic books--as if that's an insult. Several reviewers, as well as one of my editors, has said that they'd make great graphic novels, if not tv shows or movies.

Of course, what to they know? Obviously conservative asshats with so little going for them that they spend their time trolling DU for material are more knowledgable about literature than people in the business.

53. I knew Robert Heinlein and his brother when I was 16.
One thing the brothers despised was religious fundamentalist deniers of evolution and "the potential of life". I went for a hunt in the local creek for pre-historic monsters "MudPuppies" after one such lectures with the old General and Robert Heinlein wading in the muck and goo like kids. We did not find any that day but the old General brought them to the house a couple weeks later and sent pictures to Robert.

My favorite conversation was a debate about Bobby Kennedy, the older Heinlein and Robert had reservations about Vietnam. Although conservative I know for an absolute fact they would despise the fundamentalist authoritarian pussies who call themselves conservatives today. The old General (elder brother) lectured Robert about the futility of the Vietnam war although a lifelong Republican vowed to vote for Bobby Kennedy. Heresy I tell you.

The Republican Congress used to scream about "rule of law" but it looks like they are quite good at evading the law. The present Bush administration made an art out of getting deferments to not serve in Vietnam (Dick Cheney got five or six). They think none of us have served in the military. Nor have any of our relatives. My dad served quite honorably in the Army Air Corps. So did my uncle. Dad was a liberal Democrat (even before the war) and my uncle was an actual Socialist/Technocrat. Dad was too valuable to go into combat, because of his technical ability. I tried to get in OCS after graduation but was rejected for health reasons.

My hubby is a liberal and his dad was a Lieutenant Colonel and his grandfather was a Lieutenant General. Having a General in your family isn't too shabby. His parents loved Eisenhower. (Remember Eisenhower, the one who made the speech warning us about the military-industrial complex? That is now known as Halliburton-Blackwater-Custer Battles, and many other private companies who have gotten sweetheart deals).

But then, back when he was a kid there was a thing called a fiscally conservative Republican. They didn't get in peoples' private lives, either. They didn't legislate morality. Barry Goldwater said "You don't have to be straight to shoot straight." He was referring to gays in the military. Those sort of Republicans are just about extinct, except for John Dean. Bill Clinton had to dig us out of a deficit that Reagan and Bush ran up. Bill Clinton was the one being fiscally responsible.

I'm still waiting for those who think the Iraq war is such a good idea to go volunteer and serve over there. Haven't seen a one of them do it. The Iraqis didn't attack us with jets in the first place. Not one single Iraqi attacked the World Trade Center. Saudi Arabians did. But Bush holds hands with the sheik and was once business partners with Salem Bin Laden, Osama's deceased brother. We can't make the Saudis mad since we do business with them.

But now we've made an awful lot of enemies, going in and destroying Iraq, which was quite educated and secular. Women could actually work outside the home, when Saddam was in power. Now they are whipped and hounded and murdered by the morality police. Now wouldn't you shoot anyone who invaded your country from a foreign land, in Humvees and helicopters and dropped bombs on you? That's what the Iraqis are doing. Fighting back. They did nothing to us.

And Iran is not building nuclear weapons either!

There was a story on 60 Minutes about how Christians are now persecuted in Iraq, and now they have to meet in secret, and all the men have been dragged off and killed. An Anglican minister they interviewed said that things are completely different than they were under Saddam. He also pointed out that the history of Christianity, as far as the Crusades and killing infidels, was just as bad as that of Islam.

Boy we really brought religious freedom to Iraq didn't we? (SARCASM ALERT)

65. I don't know . . .
Should I be relieved that the CUmstains haven't mentioned me or offended because I'm not making enough waves?

Hey, at least they discovered nesting, unlike RimJob and his merry bunch of Carnival Cruise-mates.

66. Unless you like attention and don't mind what kind it is,
I'd say you're better off going unnoticed.

:)
