Not just a Dem but a progressive one will win
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 05:20 PM by BelgianMadCow
The people voted strongly in favor of change in '06.
The people give the democratically-led Congress only a 15% or so approval rating.
The people still want real change to happen, and they know a president can be a major factor in any change process.

The people will vote progressive given half a chance and fairly balanced information.

The first would be achieved by having some of the progressive Dems make it far into the primaries. The second, in the GE, is a whole different matter and will depend on the grassroots and the blogosphere I'm afraid.

Here's to hope, inspiration and the truly hard work ahead!

1. I get the feeling that the Democratic candidate can win..
with a sizable popular vote win, but not an electoral vote win.

2. Couldn't say, Edwards, hold on to the 06 base and
carry red states?

Why do you have this feeling? I confess I'm not an avid poll watcher, but of course, as the margins in matchups aren't that big, this becomes a risk.

The right-wing noise machine hasn' really started on any progressive candidates it seems. But they would. That would be countered by more and more people being exposed to the vision of a progressive candidate.

3. It doesn't matter how the people vote, because
their votes need to be fairly counted. Democratic candidates actually won the presidential elections in 2000 and 2004, but it didn't matter.

4. I sadly concur
the first theft was what got me into US politics in the first place.

I am unclear on the status of a fair vote being more likely now...haven't been in the elections forum.

8. I REALLY REALLY hope so
:toast:

I don't think it's very likely though.

6. If a Dem wins, it will be a liberal one
Check out the voting records of the major Democratic candidates. They have ALL voted with a liberal record (yes, even Hillary).

7. Fine too!
I have to admit being a bit unclear about liberalism in the US, as it means something else over here.

If it means things like pro-choice, that's why dem <> repub. And I'm glad for that.
