He also is within single digits in NH recently. Hillary has a poor ground game compared to Obama in both IA and NH.

Obama could defeat her just yet!

1. The surge is meaningless without a political solution.

3. I have wondered if Hillary's name recognition impacted early polling numbers.
I am not being snarky when I say this, but I wondered if the fact that Hillary is a former First Lady had any impact in the early polling numbers in that race. I suspect it did simply because people (read as potential voters) did feel they knew who she is--after all they watched her on the political stages with her husband for several years! She had"name recognition."

The "new" guys in the race--Obama, and Richardson for example--didn't have that higher level of name recognition going into the race. They didn't offer that same level of comfort to voters early on in the race. My expectation was that Hil's early support was a more or less solid number, but that as time wore on the "unknown" folks would start to show stronger numbers as the "udecideds" made up their minds. Some folks were still gonna fall into the Hil camp, but I think an awful lot of voters had an opinion about her very early on.

I'm not reading a whole lot into these early numbers just yet. There is an awful lot of time between now and Feb 5 (Super Tuesday) and a whole lot can change.

Regards!

Laura
