5. not confirming the hostage taker
not confirming whether they are talking to him. I guess they're still heavily involved in negotiations right now.

The primary purpose of a news conference in a situation like this is to control information. The secondary purpose is to make the agencies in charge look good.

18. Of course that is the answer-they can't
You have the press conference so that the citizens simply know that everything is under control etc.

25. I won't get my underpants in a knot!
I know the answer to the question, but you have to laugh out loud at the redundancy of it all.

Guess MSM are desperate for some new video. He's outdoing Gonzo with non-answers.

He can't talk about much of anything. Understandable. But they probably could have just released a statement in writing to the press.

23. Thanks for your replies.
Why do you hate it in Florida? Because it's not home, I guess. Have you ever been to Fort Walton or Destin. I love those places.

26. It's flat, it's humid, it's red, hurricanes, no jobs, crazy seniors with 'tudes.
And I miss the mountains, the moose, the bear and the granola hikers.

Shuts the sensational element down. He gave the proper answers. The surrounding area is safe. The situation is a hostage situation and it is ongoing. We're on it. Good bye.
