"Dulaimi is prohibited from leaving his headquarters in al-Adl neighborhood so as to preserve his life. Iraqi forces are now guarding Dulaimi after all his bodyguards were arrested," Qassem Atta told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
"A joint force from the interior and defense ministries arrested Dulaimi's son along with 36 others on Friday morning," Atta said.
He pointed out that the detention of Makki al-Dulaimi occurred upon confessions by a number of people arrested on Thursday.
Earlier on Friday a release by Dulaimi's office announced that Iraqi and U.S. forces arrested more affiliates and bodyguards of al-Dulaimi's IAF, including his son, raising to 53 the total number arrested after two car bombs the authorities said were inside the IAF headquarters were found.
"Joint forces raided the house of Dulaimi and arrested 40 bodyguards and members of his office, including his son Makki, during the early house of Friday," read the release received by VOI.
"The U.S. forces had found on Thursday afternoon a car bomb in a street near the office of IAF leader Dulaimi in al-Adl neighborhood, western Baghdad," according to the statement, noting these forces detonated the explosive vehicle in a residential area, causing severe damage to a number of nearby houses and part of the Iraqi People's Congress building.
The raiding forces, the statement added, arrested 13 persons from the office on Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday Dulaimi expressed discontent over a security official's "hasty" reporting of two car bombs in his office, blaming him for failure to verify the reports from Dulaimi in person.
"Qassem Atta, the spokesman for the Fardh al-Qanoon security plan, should have contacted me to verify the reports before announcing the reports to the mass media and consequently tarnishing our reputation," Dulaimi told VOI.
