No more sober impeachment marches down the aisles of The House for Henry Hyde.

The man who (finally) admitted that the impeachment of Bill Clinton was payback for Nixon has passed his gavel and gone to the Great Beyond.

"Former Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) died early Thursday morning in a Chicago-area hospital, according to congressional sources. He was 83" reports the AP. "Hyde underwent open-heart surgery back in July and never completely recovered from the procedure, said a source close to Hyde. Hyde served 32 years in the House beginning in 1974, including stints as chairman of the Judiciary and International Relations committees. Hyde was chairman of the Judiciary panel during the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton in 1998. Salon.com reported in Sept. 1998 that Hyde had carried on an extra-marital affair in the late 1960s, for which Hyde publicly apologized."

In other news, last night's Republican CNN/YouTube debates proved entertaining and are certain to bring a ratings boots to Chicken Noodle News. As some pundits project Mitt ""Good Hair" Romney the victor, others saw unusual strength in warhawk John McCain. Still others were impressed by Mike Huckabee. The New York Times reports in a front page story the debate "reflected a new reality in the Republican race: Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, played a central role, demonstrating how he had come from behind to show strength in several recent polls of Iowa caucus goers." Many candidates "had high points: Mr. Giuliani with his line about Mr. Romney's mansion; Fred D. Thompson, the former senator from Tennessee, giving a spirited defense of gun control; Mr. Huckabee, when asked how Jesus would feel about the death penalty, responded, 'Jesus was too smart to ever run for public office'; and Senator John McCain of Arizona in highly emotional terms condemned torture."

Most watchers were fascinated by the Romney-Guiliani smackdown over who was the bigger hypocrite on illegal immigration. As US News and world Report put it, ""A voter from Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, named Ernie Nardi, started the slapfest by asking Giuliani if he would continue to 'aid and abet' illegal immigrants as he did as mayor -- kicking off two hours of often raucous confrontations in the CNN/YouTube debate. 'The reality was, New York was not a sanctuary city,' replied Giuliani, saying that he allowed illegal immigrants access to city schools, hospitals and police stationhouses as a way to ensure the city's broader health and safety. 'If we didn't allow the children of illegal immigrants to go to school, we would have had 70,000 children on the streets.' Romney pounced, saying Giuliani had 'absolutely' run a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants - to which Giuliani countered that Romney had run a 'sanctuary mansion' by allowing undocumented immigrants to tend his home's lawn outside of Boston while governor."

The bigger question - and cloud - that hangs over Guiliani's shiny pate is the questionable public funding of his adulterous trysts with his then-girlfriend (now 3rd wife) Judith Nathan. "Late in his tenure as mayor of New York, Rudolph W. Giuliani billed tens of thousands of dollars in travel expenses to little-known city agencies as he was beginning an extramarital affair, a political Web site reported yesterday" the New York Times reports.

Perhaps voters can take comfort that it's not just the NYC first responders he screwed.

I was reading a cat book the other day and under Exotic Shorthair it says that this breed comes into its personality at 2 years old. An adult with characteristics of a kitten. "Neotenic" I learned a new word!!!! I went home to look up.

Sesame is 2 and she is filling out, her head is the correct size for the breed and her personality is friendly and very loyal to her owner (moi). They love other cats and dogs, too bad Pumpkin is the only one who loves her, but that's OK. She's happy.

61. I am soooo tempted to find her a friend. They're very expensive

but you can find one that is being sold for pet only, or someone who would give a kitten to you... I am completely sold on the breed, and I never would even consider having a designer cat. But she was going to be shipped off to Florida and I could not have it. Her mother was just as sweet and had her coloring, but she got a good home with Sesame's brother in this area. Geesha was the mother and I almost took her. I should have. Oh well. I have enough cats.

This has been a huge nightmare for us. It just hasn't been going well at all.
It's just been one thing after another and my lease is up here on Saturday!!
But this landlord told me not to worry and just find a new place and said we
can stay here until I do. I was surprised at that because he's been a real pain
in the ass for the last 7 yrs. but he was nice today. Makes me wonder... Hmmmm

from paper mache, etc. That was a fun project. That's how you learn about other countries. I think my country was Peru. I still want to visit Machu Pichu, or some such spelling, I'm bad.

If that's how the Zogby poll was conducted, I don't know how it's necessarily less reliable than a phone survey. Maybe it has to do with some statistical calculation of who would respond to an e-mail solicitation vs. a phone solicitation.
