Kucinich To Ask DNC To Reschedule Cancelled Presidential Debate
Wed Nov 28, 2007 9:31pm EST

MANCHESTER, N.H., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- DemocraticPresidential candidate Dennis Kucinich issued the following statement tonightfollowing the decision by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to cancelthe Dec. 10 Democratic Presidential debate in Los Angeles because of "theuncertainty created by the ongoing labor dispute between CBS and the WritersGuild of America."

"As the only card-carrying union member among Democratic Presidentialcandidates, I fully support the DNC's decision to respect the rights of theWriters' Guild. I have personally offered my support to the WGA, and my wife,Elizabeth, has marched with striking members in their quest for fairtreatment, professional respect, and financial equity.

"At the same time, the DNC is doing a major disservice to its ownconstituents and to all American citizens by not even considering analternative that would respect union workers' rights and also fulfill itsobligation to the public for a full and fair debate among the Party'sPresidential candidates.

"The DNC's decision - 'There are no plans to reschedule' - begs thequestion: Why not?

"The DNC easily found an alternative solution to deal with a labor disputeinvolving the original venue for its annual meeting this Friday by moving theevent to Vienna, Virginia. Democrats should expect that their Party'sleadership apply the same ingenuity and commitment to staging a Presidentialdebate, one that will help set a new direction for our country and the world.

"I intend to ask the leadership of the DNC, in the interest of theAmerican public's right to know, to reschedule the event at another time, inanother place, with another broadcast partner who is not add at odds with itsemployees. I can't think of a single, legitimate reason for the DNC not togive the most serious consideration to that request."SOURCE Kucinich for President 2008Washington, D.C.: Sharon Manitta, +1-202-506-6683, Sharon.manitta@kucinich.us;National HQ: Andy Juniewicz, +1-216-409-8992, ajuniewicz@aol.com
