Toxic dust from destructed World Trade Center increases rates of respiratory problems

Children exposed to toxic dust from the destruction of the World Trade Center have higher rates of respiratory problems including

According to the department's World Trade Center Health Registry, half of the 3,100 children enrolled in the registry developed at least one new or worsened respiratory symptom, such as a cough, after the Sept. 11, 2001, destruction of the twin towers.

About 45 percent of the children were caught in the dust cloud when the towers collapsed, and those children were twice as likely to be diagnosed with asthma after 2001 as those not caught in the dust, the survey found.

The registry was begun in 2003 in an effort to track the health of residents, trade center workers, and rescue and recovery teams who may have been exposed to the dust and debris from the collapse.

3. In a Bush administration study:
Supported by data provided by the tobacco industry, it has been shown that
toxic dust is beneficial to your health, especially if you live in a ward
that votes traditionally Democratic.

To prove otherwise, more research would be needed, and a research grant of
thirty billion dollars was proposed in the next budget for further studies
of this matter to be done by the RNC Tobacco Company of Slushfund, NC.

2. Yep. It damn well did.
For me, it's settled down. But I was up by Union Square and not in the main cloud (I thought...until I saw the satellite photos. All of lower Manhattan was engulfed.) and I never had a speck of ash on me like the people who escaped from downtown. But my inhaler use shot way up until just this year. Now I'm back to hardly using it at all. So the damage wasn't permanent for those of us not at Ground Zero that day. But those who were are still in trouble. Why should they have doctor bills over this? What happened to the donated money?

4. The fire ash here in SoCal makes people miserable everytime the wind shifts to offshore
It's going to take a good wet winter before most of it's gone.

Ash from the San Diego County fires in 2003 lasted a couple of years.
