Don't believe for a minute that Repubs are bailing because of conscience
Today Al Hubbard, chairman of President Bush’s National Economic Council, announced his resignation. Trent Lott and Denny Hastert did just recently. The list of Republicans bailing on BushCo is growing longer than the Titanic passenger manifest.

Don't believe it for a second. None of these guys suddenly woke up to the calamity that has become the Republican party. They not woefully anticipating a election-day referendum which will forever send them into obscurity. They're counting on it. They expect it. They're counting on it to help rebuild their fortunes.

You'd have to have just fallen off the proverbial turnip truck to not realize the dire straights this country is in. Essentially, we're fucked. The shit that is about to go down over the next few years as a result of Bush's policies will be nothing short of epic. Hardship and chaos for millions in ways we've simply not seen in our lifetimes.

Democrats spent the first four years of Bush's reign decrying the "It's Clinton's fault!" battle cry of the GOP. EVERYTHING bad was Clinton's fault and we stepped right up at every turn and told them to "get over it." We told them that as the leadership party, they owned the mess.

So...what do you think will happen after January 2009 and the democrats control virtually everything as a result of the GOP's false attritions and the public's desperate desire for change? The eventual impact of Bush's off-budget war spending and unchecked militarism and corporate love-making will finally find there way to the surface under democratic leadership. And you can bet every last worthless dollar you have that every GOP pundit and BushCo enabler will be on every "news" program and talking head show telling the democrats to "get over it...you own it now...why haven't you done anything?"

That will set up the meme for 2012. That just like the Democratic Congress under Reid and Pelosi, the new democratic leadership has been hapless, helpless and ineffectual, and has brought the country economic hardship where Bush once boasted (falsly, of course, but no one ever asked questions) historically low unemployment and inflation and a nation giddy with prosperity.

It's coming. Count on it. They're looking to hand of their baton of failure to the Democrats so that we can be blamed for losing the sure-thing they had put in place. That's why they continually, shamelessly lie about the state of the economy and the war. Because all they have to do is hold out until we take over. Then BOOM...it's up to us to stop blaming the past administration and simply "get over it."

2. I disagree.
when you consider that their conscience consists of greedy principles, self-promotion, deceit, helping campaign supporters, and misleading the public, it is indicative of PRECISELY how their consciences work.

3. Yeah, but I think DECEIT is the key word
They're looking to blame the coming crash on the dems, who will almost certainly be in charge when it finally comes...because BushCo is orchestrating it that way through the shameless lying about the economy and the war. When they're gone and the truth comes out, all hell will have broken lose under Democratic leadership, which already has proven themselves totally worthless at tackling tough issues.

5. FDR didn't get blamed for the Depression. Hoover, quite rightly, did.
Unless the American people have gotten a lot stupider in the last 70 years, I don't think the GOP can count its chickens, just yet.

Sorry, I sometimes get these spells of optimism and pride. Must seek medical attention. ;-) :kick:

7. But that Depression started while Hoover was president
the OP is saying the next disaster may not happen until the Democrats control it all. However, what may make a difference is how the Dems respond to it. What really did Hoover and the Republicans in in 1932 was that they never lifted a finger to help anyone after the 1929 Crash. Remember the Bonus Marchers? Hoover sent the Army in to clear them out. When they marched again after FDR was president, he sent Eleanor to meet with them.

In the end, the response to a crises will mean more than whose fault it is.

4. Perhaps the only good
thing to come out of the Bush Presidency is the final destruction of the extreme religio-conservative movement. I think Bush once used the term "relegated to the scrapheap of history" in one of his SOTU messages.

6. This bastard has been spending money
like a drunk thats found someones wallet. We need to get back the money from the rich piggies and the corps that stole it, tax the goddamn hell out of them and remind them at every turn we had a 500
billion dollar surplus until their boy got a hold of it.
Even then it's going to be a very rough time that's going to kill an awfully lot of people.

10. they've looted the kitchen pantry
and gutted the domestic federal agencies with incompetence & cronyism.

you're right, sadly. its set up to be a horror show for the dems to try & put things
back right.

and the one thing the republicans are good at is smearing and playing the 'blame game' on democrats.
