CNN Is An ACTIVE Participant In Planning War With Iran!!
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 11:23 AM by Crisco
I just received this notice in my email:

CNN Presents: We Were Warned--Iran Goes Nuclear

CNN Presents: We Were Warned - Iran Goes Nuclear examines a potential scenario of the nation's response to an Iran with nuclear weapon capabilities. Participating in the scenario are people with real-life situation task force experience at the highest levels of government:

Former Acting CIA Director John Mclaughlin in the role as National Security Advisor

Former Nixon and Clinton Sr. Staffer David Gergen in the role as White House Chief of Staff

Former Vice-Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joe Ralston, in the role as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs

Former EPA Administrator and New Jersey Gov. Christie Todd Whitman in the role as Secretary of Treasury

Former CIA Director Jim Woolsey in the role as Secretary of Defense

Former FBI Terrorist Chief Dale Watson in the role as Secretary of Homeland Security

Former CIA Director of Counter Terrorism, John Brennan in the role as Director of National Intelligence

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, U.S. Ambassador to Syria and Undersecretary of State for Near-East affairs, Ed Djrejian as the Secretary of State.

Set in the future, an informant discloses a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program and the U.S. president convenes his National Security Council to review the options and the consequences of potential action and inaction, and develop a recommendation for what to do.

While our hypothetical council debates, CNN's Frank Sesno interviews former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, former arms inspector David Kay, and current Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns for their expert views on the consequences of a nuclear Iran - and the current tensions between the two nations. He asks them what the U.S. should be doing to avert the worst-case scenario.

We Were Warned - Iran Goes Nuclear will premiere on Wednesday, December 12 from 8pm to 10pm, with a replay at midnight to 2am (all times Eastern).

This program is pure propaganda, designed to get us all comfy with the idea of going to war with Iran .... CNN is guilty of conspiracy, IMO.

33. Yep - that's why they were able to sell Marc Rich as just another wealthy tax evader
that needed pardoning.

Marc Rich was a named figure in both IranContra and BCCI. So, Bill actually pardoned another of Poppy Bush's operatives.

Rather hard to imagine Glenn Beck taking orders from a Sheik. :) Anyhow - my point is that identifying certain sections of the capitalist media as somehow better (or worse) than others (based on nationalist grounds) seems to be somewhat naive. They are collectively hostile to the interests of working people and only interested in self-enrichment. The problem with your kind of thinking is that it *externalizes* the problem entirely. By identifying the 'enemy' as Saudi / Mexican / Chinese / <insert favorite country here>, you fail to identify the *class* enemy - who is better identified by his moneybags than anything else and let 'our' corrupt capitalists off the hook.

:)

27. On the contrary, there has been a patent shift in editorial line at CNN in the past several years
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 01:41 PM by Romulox
Furthermore, every developed country on earth (save our own) restricts foreign ownership of media, precisely because a Saudi Sheik's interests very likely do not coincide very neatly with those of the average American.

In the law, there is a saying: cui bono?: For whose benefit? I think it's fairly obvious that the true naivete lies in assuming a cash-flushed member of the Saudi royal family bought a controlling interest in CNN solely as a silent partner. The marked (and publicly acknowledged) change in editorial line at CNN that coincides with this ownership is a coincedence only in the minds of the truly credulous.

32. You misunderstand me - I don't classify the Saudi rulers as a benign force
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 02:28 PM by entanglement
any more than the neo-cons or any other group hostile to the interests of the working class. The difference is you're thinking along nationalistic lines and I'm thinking along class lines. The domination of the airwaves and other forms of media by organized capital has ALREADY proved to be a disaster for us. Pursuing your argument, you're perfectly ok with the control of large sections of the US media by someone like Rupert Murdoch (because he's an American). The likes of Mr. Murdoch are arguably as culpable as any Sheiks in our spiraling descent to fascism.

You're worried about the perceived "change of editorial line" since the Saudis bought a stake. Gawd! You're at best seeing a *very* small part of the train-wreck that is organized capitalism.

Rupert Murdoch (or Eisner or any other media boss's) interests coincide about as much (as little, really) with those of a working class American as a Saudi Sheik . That is the crux of my idea.

You believe *one* group of owners of capital / bosses are somehow better than others because they're American. I disagree - I perceive nationalistic thinking (worldwide) as a major enemy to global working class unity and solidarity. As long as the working class is divided along ethnic / racial / religious / nationalistic lines, the bosses win.

Edited to add: Of course, I'm all for total control of the airwaves by working people rather than kings, sheiks, neocons or corporatists of any stripe.

:)

20. Say it aint so. The network of Glen Beck..
Oh wait .. Glen Beck and that e-mail are part of a consistent pattern with CNN:

Why Were Government Propaganda Experts Working On News At CNN?
Reports in the Dutch newspaper Trouw (2/21/00, 2/25/00) and France's Intelligence Newsletter (2/17/00) have revealed that several officers from the US Army's 4th Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Group at Ft. Bragg worked in the news division at CNN's Atlanta headquarters last year, starting in the final days of the Kosovo War.

The story is disturbing. In the 1980s, officers from the 4th Army PSYOPS group staffed the National Security Council's Office of Public Diplomacy (OPD), a shadowy government propaganda agency that planted stories in the U.S. media supporting the Reagan Administration's Central America policies.

A senior US official described OPD as a "vast psychological warfare operation of the kind the military conducts to influence a population in enemy territory." (Miami Herald, 7/19/87) An investigation by the congressional General Accounting Office found that OPD had engaged in "prohibited, covert propaganda activities," and the office was soon shut down as a result of the Iran-Contra investigations. But the 4th PSYOPS group still operates.

CNN has always maintained a close relationship with the Pentagon. Getting access to top military officials is a necessity for a network that stakes its reputation on being first on the ground during wars and other military operations..

Venezuela Chavez: CNN may be instigating my murder
CARACAS, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Wednesday CNN may have been instigating his murder when the U.S. TV network showed a photograph of him with a label underneath that read "Who killed him?"

The caption appeared to be a production mistake -- confusing a Chavez news item with one on the death of a football star..

28. And this kind of action has a specific history. One of the coup plotting
stations in Venezuela ran tape of the assasination attempt on the Pope over and over with a voice over that suggested that it was time to "take direct action", iirc. They didn't name Chavez but the implication was pretty clear. I believe that station (Globovision) and CNN are connected financially.

29. There will be no economy
An attack on Iran will lead to loss of 50% of the worlds petroleum export market, reducing said market from ~41 Mbbl/dy to ~21 Mbbl/dy.

Petroleum will be priceless, with critical demand far outstripping supply.

The US economy will go into depression, or worse. Shortages in fuel and food will occur in short order, as the US imports over 12 Mbbl/dy, and will be bidding using the greatly weakened dollar against countries with significant export capacity in finished goods in what remains of the worlds export market.

Vlad, on the other hand, is excited. Kinda like some Anton Chigurh stalking the petrodollar.

And all the current 'peace conference' is accomplishing is further isolation of Iran, making it much more likely they will strike out against perceived US 'allies' in the gulf.
