1. Sure they could, if we lived in a Free Country.

However, we do not and this kind of systematic criminality is now State-Approved because we failed to give a shit the first time and that's all a tyrannical Hitler or Bush needs (to get away with it the first time) in order for a thing to be "legal". End of story. It really is as simple as that.

If you continue to live under the increasingly unrealistic fantasy that Old America is somehow still existant in any meaningful way and that all we need are big Democratic landslides in 2008 to make everything right (the first problem, the Imperial would NEVER allow such a thing to happen. It is THEIR country not us Filthy Little Nobodies' and they would pile our corpses in stacks of millions before they would let themselves be seriously undermined), then these sorts of things will be neverendingly puzzling to you, and they just seem to keep happening over and over and over...

But if you realize that the Bushies are nearly halfway to creating a fully BushPutinist State, based on time honored principles of tyranny running a straight line back through Hitler and Machiavelli in it's evolution to this latest incarnation, then these repeat occurrances makes absolute sense.

To sum up, sure charges could be filed.

But they won't. Read up on Italy in the 20s and Germany inthe late 20s and early 30s. Combined with some aspect of Caesar's neutralization of the Roman Republic and you have the playbook that is being used here and now.

3. It is I who am sorry, madokie. Maybe it's I who has my head up my melodramatic ass.

I want so bad to believe it, too. That Old America can come back. Many people are fighting this on many fronts as we so comfortably tap on our computers. Maybe they can succeed.

I just see no real concrete sign of it. Not one. Oh, we have our little DU "red herrings" (which in a Free Country would be felony trials for Bushie Criminals), were we think we have the criminals dead to rights.

But then the Bushie Felons just brass it out...and it works again and again and again and again...

I know it's not as simple as that, but who would have ever dreamed (other than the ghosts of everyone in all the nations in all the ages of history this has happened to before) that one of the key tenets to so thoroughly defeating a democratic, constitutional republic would simply be, "Just ignore it all and press on". If at the end of the day you haven't been clapped in irons, then what do did is now legal. Proceed to the next barrier smashed.

I hope I am wrong. The melodramtic moonbat even so many here on DU think me. But that light coming up the tunnel is getting larger. As Naomi Wolf says, the timeline is proceeding apace.

At this point all we can do is whatever we can do to stop the Bushies. If to some that means campaigning for Hillary, so be it. To others it might be civil disobedience of some kind, like CodePink.

I am not advocating giving up. I will never advocate that.

I never once would have entertained the thought that you might me a moonbat, wasn't that that governor of California years ago, Jerry Brown :rofl:

but in all seriousness I am, when I allow myself to think it anyway, afraid we have already jumped the shark and theres no turning it back. I sure don't like that thought one bit though but reality is reality. We must trudge on cause if we by hard work and chance do win it will be worth it, that I do know, I think,:-) for sure. Up until bush/cheney I thought we were pretty secure in our Constitution. so sad it all has to end this way and with it happening in our lifetimes. I see the potential for a lot of pain in the near future, bush/cheney only has a year to make their big play which in order for them to stay free they will have to do. the time for put up or shut up is drawing near. but then again the politicians might save us form immediate tyranny by not threatening them with accountability. I just don't know
