We've had several incidents of gas tanks being siphoned in our little village of
40 some houses over the 2-3 weeks. Sigh...I think we may have been among them. My husband had been complaining that all of a sudden his truck has been using lots of gas and was thinking that there was something wrong with the engine. We need to monitor it a bit.

Everyone out here needs to travel some distance to get to work or school. We're sitting here tonight actually discussing buying a locking gas cap for the truck.

5. Locking gas caps may not be original equipment replacements
For me, at least when I bought one to fit, it really didn't and kept setting off the O2 sensor on the engine check light. One mechanic told me that its lack of proper seal was the cause and that it could be dangerous. So, for now, I'm taking my chances on the original cap.

6. A locking gas cap might work,
but check to see if there's some other way to get at the gas. On my buddy's truck, they pulled the feed-pipe loose (from the fill; it was a rubber pipe with clamps) and stole the gas that way.

If you have working gas gauges, then record what these read when you park them.

We had a problem for a while (tweekers), and it was "friends" of people in the neighborhood. If you can figure out who it is, then maybe you can deal with them (having a little talk; calling the authorities).
