18. More than just about hunting?
There are many who hunt, no problem. But there is also a theme here aside hunting which is, I always suspect, pitting pro-hunting vs. the anti-hunters to cause maximum disruption.

I used to work in my parents slaughterhouse and it was part of the job to put down thousands of hogs, beef and lamb. I have hunted most of my early life mostly pheasant, deer and squirrel. It is my opinion that outside of sustenance hunting most of the hunting experience can be had through birding, wildlife photography and nature observation. I was (maybe still am) an expert shot though no longer own any sport or "personal protection" weapons.

16. Nope
Dad has been a hunter over the years, eats what he kills.

Was just reading the news from back home (Ohio) and saw the story (among others I posted) and found it interesting.

9. Speaking of the hunt..
Have you made your cats bird friendly? A simple bell for cats can save many a bird. They really do inflict quiet a toll on the local bird population.

Even if your cats are, just a friendly reminder for other cat owners.

Happy holidays...

Once we've destroyed their habitat, we won't have to worry about the small damage done by cats.

19. Cats outside anywhere are lethal to all Birds
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 02:31 PM by StClone
Cats should never be allowed outside for their safety and for that of wildlife. They are amazingly adroit hunters for fun and food and do big damage. Cats outside run the risk of disease, parasites, cars, fights and wrath of people that feed birds. There are voluminous studies on cat depredation on birds just GOOGLE it.

15. Just a friendly reminder to cat owners
Cat's do kill many birds unnecessarily. Not their fault, just a bit of predator instinct left over. Many cats don't even know that the bird they just killed is to eat. A simple bell around a cat's neck is all that's needed to help a lot of birds.

I love cat's too, just can't have one as my wife is not a cat person.

Didn't want to hi-jack the thread though...

Happy Holidays..

Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 02:30 PM by hlthe2b
it seems to me lately... Every debate becomes black versus white, good versus evil-- whether we are talking about the Dem candidates, hunting, animal rights, spanking, history and heritage-- you name it! As much as we hate it in Herr pResident, it seems lately that DU has adopted an either "you're with us or agin us" attitude!

This too shall pass, I hope...

There is a team of them. I think they get together every day and decide which topic to fill the board up with. It's always nonsense.

27. Because it's hunting season and I wake up every morning to the sound of gunshots.
I can't let my dogs or my kids play outside because loonies with guns tramp through my acres, despite the property being posted, and take shots at everything that moves.

Because they drag their penis-extender/bloody carcass trophies all over the roads up here.

And then they dump the entire carcass in the dumpster because they are too drunk, stupid and lazy to use the meat.

That's why.

Hunters suck.

To let "hunters" trample over you and then to also let possible felonies happen day in and day out...I just don't understand that.

Have you called the Sheriff? Called the media?

The media lusts at times for human interest stories where someone is geting done wrong or crime is rampant, fighting for the underdog is gravy when it comes to ratings. Unless the media is in bed with local LEO, give them some info and they'll run with it.
