So...
Scott McClellan made public his bosses lied about Valerie Plame and now the WH is announcing permanent bases in Iraq? Don't we remember what happen the last time we tried to build permanent bases in a ME nation? OBL ring any bells?

I guess no one is going to stop the criminal assholes, not until we really do see a mushroom cloud over some poor US city. AND EVEN THEN, it won't be a 'how did we get here thing' no sir, no reflection on the causes. It will all be chest-beating and instant mass pain to some place we 'suspect' the nuke came from.

And away to the races we will go.

Got blame, well it makes money IF you don't ask the right questions. Is there ANYTHING the Bush Admin will not do? Any level they won't sink to? ANYONE out there in Congress going to stop George?

ANYONE?

2. I've never felt so helpless about my country.
We are literally watching history repeat itself and I really believe the assholes-in-charge know it and are banking on permanent bases winning them another 911 or worse. Which would give them ample reason to take over this country without ever having to fire a shot.

If they betray their own CIA, what else will they do?

3. You have it
sorry to say. That chest beating thing was old before it started, I am so sick of this.

I don't think enough people in Congress really want to stop it or they would try. For whatever reason they may have they have obviously and disgustingly looked the other way when we asked for them to do something.

I remain an angry, embarrassed and disgusted American citizen without representation.

4. When I read permanent bases, I immediately thought they were trying
to provoke another attack on US soil. Granted Iraq ain't Iran or Saudi Arabia, BUT the mere mention of bases was all it took last time.

I, like you, am VERY sick of the chest beating. It makes me sad to think that is all well educated people can do when faced with a crisis. Americans can do better, we CAN solve or problems diplomatically and without bloodshed or at least I use to think that.

Your last line says it all for me too.

5. That wasn't my first thought
but you may be right, it could very well be. Whatever the reason I can't fathom how that must look to the citizens of Iraq, especially when we can't rebuild what we blew up properly or provide them with the daily necessities like water and electricity. We can't do that but we can spend millions and millions of dollars on ourselves to make the Green Zone as much like home as possible and then to add to that insult we build this monster and say we are not ever leaving. Now tell me, who was this war for? We have no business there except to provide the money and any service they need to rebuild their country that we blew up in a fit of irrational chest beating.
