‘Christian’ Pediatrician Turns Away Child Because of Parent’s Tatoos
In Bakersfield, California Dr. Gary Merrill, Pediatrician, turned away Tasha Childress and her daughter because of the way they look. Ostensibly sighting the teachings of Christ as justification of his decision.

The doctor said he is just following his beliefs, creating a Christian atmosphere for his patients.

Tasha Childress said it’s discrimination.

She said Dr. Gary Merrill wouldn’t treat her daughter for an ear infection because Tasha, the mother, has tattoos.

The writing is on the wall—literally: “This is a private office. Appearance and behavior standards apply.”

For Dr. Gary Merrill of Christian Medical Services, that means no tattoos, body piercings, and a host of other requirements—all standards Merrill has set based upon his Christian faith.

<snip>

Now, I’ll defend your right to refuse service to whomever you please, but claiming your refusal to help another human is an act of Christianity is silly absolutely insane. Christ refused help to no one. In fact, it was spiritually troubled misanthropes and outcasts that he embraced foremost. Christ even asked forgiveness for his own murderers.

1. Stuff like this really stupifies me.

I don't follow the faith, and even I know there's nothing Christian about this choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jesus PREFER to hang out with people who didn't fit with the status quo? Criminals, lepers, prostitutes, etc?

15. These modern-day "christians" would gleefully stone Jesus
himself.

They aren't Christians. They are Leviticans and Paulians. BIG difference.

Can't turn up the link though, because the search is disabled for me...

That's kind of weird, considering that I bought a heart for someone AND someone else had bought a heart for me, too. Shouldn't I have donor status (at least access to the search, anyway?)

But yea, this is a dupe.

...are PRECISELY the people who the Jesus of his Bible would have invited in and helped.

11. Sounds like a Partial-Leviticusian masquerading as a Gospel-Christian

The partial-Leviticusians use selected passages from the Book of Leviticus to guide their thinking. They are Old Testamenters rather than New Testamenters, and worship certain writers such as Leviticus rather than the Christian God.

It is a shame when they sow confusion by masquerading as Christians.

Worshiping writers is more common than we may think.....there are probably people who worship Bob Dylan or John Lennon.......

12. You DUers are Freaks! Dr. Merrill is a Christian!! NOT LIKE THE GUY IN THIS STORY:
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'

"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"

The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him."

Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

13. Dr. Gary Merrill of Bakersfield, California...
You are no "Christian," sir!

You should be ashamed of yourself for refusing treatment to a child. Your "God" will not favor you for that kind of behavior, sir, and if you do not realize that in this life, you will certainly come to realize it once you are burning in the fires of your Hell.

Dr. Gary Merrill of Bakersfield, California, you are about to find yourself embarrassed, marginalized and without help when YOU need it.

"Judge not lest ye be judged."

You've never actually read your Bible, have you "Doctor"?

14. As I said a couple days ago, I have lost faith in the church.
When the masses are allow to bastardize the message of Jesus Christ, what's the point in associating with them.

18. we are in bible belt, very red. my children went to private christian
i read about this yesterday morning. i woke the kids for school and telling them the story about the child with an ear infection. i tell them, do you remember the pain of an ear infection. they do. i tell them the mother that takes their child to the doctor to get medicine for the ear infection and because the mother had tattoos the child was denied care for the ear and had to spend the night in pain because the mother offended the doctors christians beliefs. then i left it there for my children to talk about as they got dressed.

for a 9 and 11 year old this is a clear an easy issue of a decision that is anything but being a christian. my oldest is continually faced with the lies of repugs and this war in school. my youngest is faced with the cultizing of children in religion, age appropriate. and both will have this story to share with fellow classmates, the older will be able to share in his social studies class, at exactly what a christian is not

23. just got off the phone from leaving him a message telling him, politely, what I think of
him and his so-called christianity.

it's people like him who make me believe there is no god--for no god would, it seems to me, tolerate what is being done in that deity's name by adoring "followers"

of course, having seen the name, there is no way I would go anywhere near that place. I avoid all christian establishments --and thank goodness that the local xians so thoughtfully provide a directory of xian businesses--makes it so handy to know which ones to avoid.
