How do we bring real news back to America?

State and national legislators, too.

At Thanksgiving dinner I met a woman from New Zealand who told me that during her trip here she can't find news on the TV, or in the newspapers. Their news is an hour long, three times a day, and is substantive.

When we visited Canada last year, I noticed the same. Full length stories on real issues, not mini snippets and press releases.

If we want to protect and restore democracy, bringing back real news is so crucial. I think Jefferson had some pithy quote on the topic which I can't remember, but his point was, you can't have a democracy without an informed population.

Your thoughts on how to accomplish this would be welcomed.

1. The media news is the strongest tool the right have. We should shut them all down.

2. Because shutting down the news networks is the democratic thing to do right?

3. Turn off everything but...
...PBS and C-Span. If enough people did that,it would get their attention. :7

4. We should stop watching and reading corporate media and only pay attention to
things like Air America, The Progressive Populist, etc.

5. I don't miss the nightly news one bit
There's five minutes of what's going on, like an NFL game recap. Then something about one person in Kansas 'beating the system', then it finishes out with some feelgood bullshit or other senseless filler.

Fuck em all. Even Dan Rather, he wasn't any different.
