I just filled my car up for $3.05 a gallon
It cost $36.60 for 12 gallons.

Why do I feel like I just made a $16.00 contribution to the Republican Party ?

1. The first time I glanced over to see that my fill-up hit $30...

'Fuck Bush!!!' loudly dropped out of my mouth. I remember when I could fill up for less than $20 BB (Before Bush).

3. We pay more like $4 a gallon in Canada, and that's CANADIAN dollars!
Europe has it much worse.

In my opinion, Americans have been badly spoiled when it comes to the price of gas. The party's over, RAISE EM UP!

10. That's not true at all.
There's a big difference in what the US $ is worth and Canada's.

The US people pay fed. and state taxes on gasoline, so they pay twice and sometimes three times.

Plus American taxpayers subsidize the oil companies too.

Cantwell: End Giveaways to Profit-Rich Oil Companies

"Taxpayers should not suffer at the hands of oil company profits"

Americans face sky-high energy costs while companies pump oil and gas from public lands royalty-free

Tuesday, February 14,2006

WASHINGTON, DC –

Tuesday, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Senate Democrats’ point person on energy issues, demanded an end to policies that let companies pump billions of dollars worth of oil and gas from public lands royalty-free. According to an analysis published in Tuesday’s New York Times, the plan amounts to an estimated $7 billion dollar giveaway. Cantwell has called for hearings in the Senate Energy Committee—of which she is a member—and is developing legislation to reform the current system of “royalty relief.”

“America’s taxpayers should not suffer at the hands of the oil companies,” said Cantwell. “With back-breaking federal budget deficits, oil prices topping $60 a barrel, and record-breaking profits for these companies, this is no time for massive giveaways to the oil industry or further fattening their bottom lines. This is about tax fairness. Instead of special treatment for special interests, we need real investments in the alternative energy infrastructure and the research and development needed to move America toward energy independence.”

In a letter sent Tuesday to Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Pete Domenici (R-NM), Cantwell and Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) requested Senate hearings on the current system of granting royalty relief to oil and gas companies that drill on public lands. Relief from royalty payments was granted during times of low energy prices. Now, with energy costs at record levels, Cantwell is calling for reform to make sure American taxpayers get their fair share, rather than subsidizing the profit margins of the oil and gas industry.

“American families need relief from record-high energy costs, not more giveaways to profit-rich companies,” continued Cantwell. “I’m demanding better and will keep fighting to get families the fair treatment they deserve.”

20. What's not true? You do realize our dollar is worth about the same as the US$ now?
Canadians pay taxes also, probably more tax on gas than Americans.

If you work it out today, we pay about $4 per gallon.

So again, what did I say that's not true?

5. I doubt this will be reversed - and maybe it shouldn't
If your only interest is to pay as little as possible for gas, count yourself lucky.

I just looked up the following:

Average price in Germany for 1 liter (according to benzinpreis.de): 1,41 Euro

One liter is about 0.22 gallons (convertunits.com/from/gallon/to/litre), one gallon in liters: 4.54

So, the price for a gallon in Germany is 6.40 Euro - at the current conversion rate that makes $9.02 a gallon.

Table with liter prices internationally:

11. alot of that is tax and with that they get 'free universal health care'
and a better infrastructure for public transportation. Most of our cost goes to the pockets of the CEO's of the big oil companies...

6. I filled my car up last week: 14.7 gallons
It cost me $120.25, so about $8.18 a gallon

In Germany, they added value-added-tax onto the gross price including the petroleum tax.
We are paying tax on the tax!!

At least the roads are in good shape............

12. Chicago area gas prices
are high also. We are the highest in the country. After all we are a Democratic state just like California which is being ruined for Republican control.

Both parties encourage illegals to this country (they go mainly to the populated areas of the north and CA).

Emmmm...you mean New Orleans and LA turned Republican on purpose? Yes...also IL and CA are on the way. Every Democratic area has had disasters, removal of industries, stolen resources, and "terrorist alerts". Why none in Republican cities and states? 911 was the attack that kept giving like the OJ stories on TV by the Neo Cons. The economy is being ruined on purpose.

14. Why?
Because last year as the elections were happening, big oil lost money since they lowered prices to help keep repubs in office. Well, they're getting back at us now... nothing to lose.

Expect the price to be at or below $3 this time next year. Gotta do what they can to keep pubbies in office, ya know?

22. It's been $3.59 for the past couple of weeks down on the corner. Of course you can spend more...
...at other stations if you want to.

I love living here on the Central Coast in CA, but gas prices are a glorious pain.

And yes, it's so much fun donating generously to the GOP.
