Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 01:01 PM by TheCentepedeShoes
to get heartworm meds for the doggie. To the grocery to pick up a few things for next week plus chili and cornbread fixins' for tomorrow. To Blockbuster for a couple of flicks. Got the Xmas stuff out of the garage (after asking hubby to do it while I was gone. He started watching football and, uh, forgot). Put the scraper and shovel in the car trunk in case I need them sometimes this winter :eyes:
I'm done for the weekend. :hi:

Edit: sloppy typing

13. I looked through my catalogues - no way I'm going to a store
I have great catalogues this year to shop with...and I do tons of online shopping so I don't need to hit the stores at all.

15. My plan was to sleep in, BUT...
Years past I have been designated to go and stand in line at 3:30 in the AM to get one hot item. When I have done that, I have always been out of the store 15 minutes after they open the doors. I refused to do that this year because the store I usually do that at wasn't going to have security out front for when the doors open. I have seen too many fights because some asshole thinks that once the door opens he can push his way through the crowd to get his grubby hands on a TV.

My wife pulled all the adds from paper Thursday and said we are going here and here and here.
At 11:00PM last night I said if you are going to get up and do this we had better get some sleep.
She set the alarm for 4:30 AM then expected to walk right into the stores and not have to stand in the cold.
We got there at 5:00AM
Surprise, Now you get to stand inside. Toys-R-Us (opened @ 5:00) was wrapped all the way around the inside the outer walls from entrance all the way around to the registers. We put down the one thing we went for and left.
Kohl's (opened @ 4:00) was wrapped both directions from front door around and back again to the registers.
Old Navy (opened @ 5:00)- forget it, I am not sure what they had that was so special.
I thought I would pick up an external hard drive at Staples for $50 since we were out. I decided that my time was more valuable than that.
We went to Wal-Mart about 6:30 and their lines were all cleared up. Picked up a few things had them match an add from Toy-R-Us on an item to save us the hassle of standing in line at Toy-R-Us and walked right up to a register. As bad as everyone complains about Wal-Mart they know how to move the people through quicker than any of the stores.

19. No, I like to sleep in on holidays
I did go to a local news site and noticed a pic on the front page of shoppers which I think speaks volumes about the odd way we approach this. Here it is a holiday, a time to enjoy and not one person in this picture is smiling - not one.

It brought up a memory of mine which is in strong contrast to this scene. I lived in Germany a long time ago and during the season, they would have Christkindlmarkt, or a Christmas market, in the center of town. I think each town had a local one. These would have many small booths selling decorations, gifts and traditional holiday goodies. It was the 1st time I'd ever had roasted chestnuts. Going there was a fun occasion and there were many unique handmade items for sale. Although clearly a consumer event, it felt more fun and social than frenzied and stressful. Such a contrast.

34. I love them, too.
And fortunate enough to have Pike Place market here, so I may go there this weekend.
But now I am craving some wintry goodies from Deutschland. A glass of mulled wine would hit the spot.

23. Went to Menards to buy a couple furnace filters
Been cold, so the furnaces are running longer. This was around 7am, and it was packed, but every register was open so I was no more than 2nd in line. Wish it was like that all the time, the fast checkout that is. :)

Yesterday's paper had an ad in the Office Depot circular for a good price on a Hard Drive and some RAM. As expected, the shelf was empty when I arrived at around 11AM. The sale price was only good for today and tomorrow.

30. Nah. I'm at work. But it's gonna be a really slow day, and tomorrow, too.
I have never been in the habit of closing up for the four-day Thanksgiving weekend but I may do it in the future. It's just that some of my clients have a real hard time getting their kitties in here for medical procedures (we don't do procedures on Saturday - short day), like school teachers and such.

Got plenty of leftover turkey and all, no need to buy more groceries.
No desire to deal with the malls on Black Friday.
