Wounded Soldier: Military Wants Part Of Bonus Back
Reporting
Marty Griffin PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.

To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.

Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills.

He finds solace in the hundreds of boxes he loads onto a truck in Carnegie. In each box is a care package that will be sent to a man or woman serving in Iraq. It was in his name Operation Pittsburgh Pride was started.

Fox was seriously injured when a roadside bomb blew up his vehicle. He was knocked unconscious. His back was injured and lost all vision in his right eye.

A few months later Fox was sent home. His injuries prohibited him from fulfilling three months of his commitment. A few days ago, he received a letter from the military demanding nearly $3,000 of his signing bonus back.

"I tried to do my best and serve my country.

1. This could not be written into a movie script....no one would believe it
Except that these must be some of those "phony soldiers" Rush-the-Cyst learned me on hate-radio.

If only they could have avoided getting the amputations so soon after signing up for Bush's war. I guess pResident "Bring em on" Bush didn't 'splain his pro-rated screw-the-vet injury policy too well.

2. more proof that the bush government hates the troops
The hypocrisy...if you speak out against the war, then you don't support the troops, you're a traitor. But the bush crime regime is free to treat them like shit and then wrap themselves in the flag and hide behind the very troops they are screwing. All the while asking for hundreds of billions more to keep this clusterfuck going for years to come. All the more gravy for the Halliburton/Blackwater gravy train.

3. The military is saying they don't have to pay it back
What the military isn't saying is whether they will give the soldiers their unpaid bonus balances.

4. Yeah, and what about those other slackers that ...
willfully destroyed their vests by getting shot?

The government has a right to collect for those vests too although its been proven that they were faulty.

5. Current DOD regulations and federal law require repayment
if you are unable to complete your term of service and can't be retrained.

There is a bill in the House to fix that but nobody in the Senate has introduced a similiar bill.
