Democrats' Iraq War Bill: 'More Holes Than Swiss Cheese'
Democrats' Bill on Iraq Wouldn't End War

ANNE FLAHERTY | November 23, 2007 02:39 AM EST | AP

WASHINGTON — The Democrats' flagship proposal on Iraq is aimed at bringing most troops home. Yet if enacted, the law would still allow for tens of thousands of U.S. troops to stay deployed for years to come.

This reality _ readily acknowledged by Democrats who say it's still their best shot at curbing the nearly five-year war _ has drawn the ire of anti-war groups and bolstered President Bush's prediction that the United States will most likely wind up maintaining a hefty long-term presence in Iraq, much like in South Korea.

For those who want troops out, "you've got more holes in here than Swiss cheese," said Tom Andrews, national director of the war protest group Win Without War and a former congressman from Maine.

The Democratic proposal would order troops to begin leaving Iraq within 30 days, a requirement Bush is already on track to meet as he begins reversing this year's 30,000 troop buildup. The proposal also sets a goal of ending combat by Dec. 15, 2008.

After that, troops remaining in Iraq would be restricted to three missions: counterterrorism, training Iraqi security forces and protecting U.S. assets, including diplomats.

1. More efforts from AP to make sure nothin happens by diminishing the support to the Democrats bill.

Since when does AP care about the anti-war movement?

And again this lie that Bush is withdrawing troops.

3. May be, but you also want to consider what AP is after. Be sure that nothing is passed
and that the GOP wins.

We have to understand who our ennemies are.

4. They're playing politics with the war.
They're terrified of being seen as having lost an already lost war but want to appear to be anti-war to mollify the left. So they introduce bills that are non-binding, full of holes, and useless, yet still "support the troops" and promise to "move towards" ending the war.

Pathetic but revealing.

5. And lest we forget, don't really end the occupation before 2013...
... so there WILL be another sElection to play politics with the War (nevermind the victims).

7. Cut the funding
The Kucinich Plan spells out how this war could be stopped and the troops brought home safely.

8. Problem is:
Not enough people even know who Dennis Kucinich is...

The "Network" is quite "effective" at making sure not enough of We The People know his name, let alone his platform.
