A judge rejected Wal-Mart's motion to block the public from seeing court documents in its dispute with the state of North Carolina over possible tax evasion, according to a report Wednesday.
The retailer filed a motion in October to have key future details sealed from public view, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The move came just after the Journal published a report on how Wal-Mart (Charts, Fortune 500) paid its outside auditor, Ernst & Young, to find ways to reduce its state tax liabilities, said the piece.
In the motion, Wal-Mart had claimed that public view of the documents caused "unreasonable and undue annoyance and oppression of a party that is attempting to litigate a serious dispute with a public agency."
