Fort Lewis soldier arrested, explosives found

Federal and Army investigators along with local police raided the home of a soldier in Federal Way and seized explosives and bomb-making materials this afternoon.

Law-enforcement officials said they arrested a Fort Lewis soldier during the raid, but they offered few details about the investigation, how the man got the explosives or what he had planned to do with them.

The raid happened about 2 p.m. at the Glen Park Apartments in the 900 block of Southwest Campus Drive. Police evacuated 17 units in the apartment building as a precaution, said Julianne Marshall, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokeswoman.

"All the explosives were recovered out of the home," Marshall said. "Just for public safety we had the neighbors leave their home for a period of time."
